How To Setup Wake On LAN (WOL) on Synology NAS | 4K TUTORIAL

WOL allows you to easily turn on your Synology NAS remotely by simply sending a Magic Packet. This can be either sent across a network, or fired off locally rather than having to press the button. In this tutorial we go over how to set up Wake on LAN on a Synology NAS.

Does WOL work with BONDed ethernet? I have not been able to get my DS1520+ with DSM 7.2.2-72803 to respond.

Would be nice to see how to do this with something else, or even with a phone or a smartwatch.

I've set my DS-220+ to hibernate the Drives (in DSM Hardware and Power) after 1 hour. WOL seems to behavior differently if the box is hibernating as opposed to after an explicit Shut Down in DSM. If the box is in hibernation, WOL using Synology Assistant's WOL tab->Wake Up seems to initiate a 1-2 minute pause before the box powers up. Is this normal behavior when the box is in hibernation?

How about a video on how to set up Plex on Zimaboard to WAL a Synology NAS? I think that would be a hit.

Hey, Can I use WOL via synology assisntant from anywhere or do i need to be on the local network with the NAS? I'm trying to find a way to wake the NAS remotely. If im on the local network i can just push the button. Is that when i would need a WOL Server?

So I’m guessing you can use your nas to wake up other devices on your lan? Can you send a ssh command to the nas for it to do this?

It's there a way to WOL over the internet?

does this also wake the expansion units connected to the main NAS?
at work we have DS3615xs as a main NAS and DX1215 for its expansion unit.
it will be super useful for lockdown / work from home scenario right now.

Thanks again for the video very much appreciated. It's there a way to WOL over the internet? For example if I'm not at home and want to WOL my NAS?

Tried on on 3 different Synology NASs. Can check off the boxes in the NAS but neither the assistant nor a 3rd party app can wake them up. Doing it on port 22 doesn't help either. Greyed out in the assistant.

1:23 - "Automatically causes your Synology to reboot whenever there is a power loss". So, do you mean, Wake On Lan causes the Synology to Power-On when the Router it's connected to turns on / comes back online?

Hi, I like your work. You have the ability to explain things in a easy, clear and consice way. However I would like to make a little observation about setting up WOL. I own a DS918+ and it needed a reboot after setting up WOL in the DSM. Otherwise the button "Set up WOL" on the Synology Assistant stays gray/is not enabled.

My Synology cannot wake on after some time. It can wake only in 7-10 minuts after shutdown? Why is that happen?
