Do you use the Google search engine? If you do, you really should switch to something else, because Google tracks everything you do in their search engine. They are collecting your information; they are data mining you. Wouldn't you prefer to use a search engine that respects your privacy and doesn't track you? Here are nine privacy-centric search engines for you to consider.

Privacy is a big deal, but I’m more concerned by the fact that Google pushes the information they think is best for you.

I used to love 'googling' stuff but something's changed and it's very hard to find what you're after.

Aside the privacy issue, we need to consider the censorship going on. Twenty years ago, I could easily access info and scientific research on controversial topics such as vaccination and alternative medicine. Now you only get the official version. It is almost impossible to find info which contradicts the mainstream medicine and science, so if we use an alternative search engine which is based on google, we are back to square one.

I've been very disappointed with Google lately. It has a tendency to bring up things that are not even relevant to my search

Personally, I love Duck, Duck Go however, very interested in some these other ones. Great video DT!

Thanks for the list! Privacy and tracking is important but what is really crucial is the search results themselves. Google filters the results in accordance with their very specific agenda, so the searches are not organic. This makes some of the options you presented that use Google to feed the search results fairly irrelevant. Google's ideology is far more disturbing than even the amount of data they collect on us. I'd like to see a list of the search engines who combat that problem. Cheers!

0:56 based on the search results recently google is not even nearly as deep as it used to be. They're clearly limiting search results.

It's not just privacy. Google isn't an organic search engine, either. Meaning, that your search results aren't related to your query, The results are related to their own agenda.

It makes sense to me why they would save search results. I'm sure a database of search results is invaluable to a search engine for optimizing and improving results. They can see what are the most searched topics and sites and the links most followed on those result pages. I'm sure there is a lot more value to them as well but I don't know enough about search engines to offer a more relevant reason.

I teach differential equations at the college level and students occasionally use wolfram alpha to evaluate integrals and solve differential equations. It's always easy to tell when they have done so and never receive credit for it. Point is that it's definitely much more than a search engine as DT says.

Ecosia should be on this list as well! They use the money from searches towards reforestation projects. They also do not track you and respect your privacy.

His list:
1) DuckDuckGo
2) Startpage
3) Qwant
4) WolframAlpha
5) Swisscows
6) MetaGer
7) Mojeek
8) Gibiru
9) YaCy

Of these, I think only MoJeek & YaCy provide their own results. Maybe Qwant & Swisscows do too. I never really considered WolframAlpha a search engine. He missed Giagblast, which also provides its own results & has a privacy-focus.

Other search engines which still provide their own results include Exalead & NorthernLight, but I'm not sure what their stance is on privacy. (I'm more interested in unique results than privacy.)

And we can't forget that web directories still exist, like Curlie or Best of the Web.

For work, I use google's search for productivity reasons. I find the information I'm looking for far quicker than the alternatives

DDG is just repackaged Bing search. You're still beholden to big tech. Yacy needs your support!

I never minded Google's tracking so much. I felt the value of their searches was worth the intrusion. However, Google's search results seemed to become too self-serving with ads, etc. So I finally felt I had to switch to DDG.

I don't want google to repspect my privacy i just want the damn results I'm searching for. It's literally easier to ask random strangers where to find a good link.

Swisscows sounds like my type of search engine. Thank you for this video. I subscribed 🙏🏾.
