At least eight tornadoes have touched down in four counties across northeastern Illinois as officials warned people to take shelter.

The weather conditions forced airports to halt all air traffic leaving hundreds of flights canceled or delayed.

I lived in a tornado zone and you run to your basement and hope your house doesn't get sucked away as golf ball size hail bombards your house and bolts of lightning strike right next to you but you're glad you survived the flash flood washing everything away.

live on the north side . the cell that hit ohare looked like it was gonna hit my area on radar . had to rush to my mothers house and put her dog in her basement to be safe . rushed back to my front porch to watch it come . nothing but rain . no lightning not a rumble of thunder . never got bad enough to go in the basement by my house . watched it from the front porch instead
