"You were out of school for about a month."

Hey all actors need a vacation now and then.

Truman never accused him of lying. So when Marlon said that he would never lie to him, Truman knew that he is selling him BS.

If you think about it Marlon is in a really terrible position himself, forced to lie to Truman his whole life. Can you imagine the amount of psychological manipulation and pressure placed on him as a child to pretend to be his friend for literal years? I genuinely pity him.

"The last thing I would do. . . Is lie to you."

Truman's face just says everything. He realizes that his best friend for his entire life has been lying to him and that everybody IS in on it.

2:48
(Tilts beer label towards the camera)
"I'm not in on it, Truman."

I love the small detail of Marlon drinking his beer with the front of the label facing the camera. So everyone watching can see another advertisement for a brand of beer.

Such good acting here by Jim Carrey, you can sense his conflict. He wants to be wrong but knows he's right and that even his best friend, is not real.

You can tell from Marlon’s face that he feels terrible about doing this to Truman.

“If everyone is in on it, then I would have to be on it too.”

The most truthful thing Marlon ever said to Truman, and the point that Truman’s heart forever broke.

This scene is so powerful just for the fact that Marlon brings up the "lie" aspect. Neither had said anything related to the idea of lying, yet here he was spouting lines. 2:35 is the turning point of the film

The most heartbreaking part is that the only person he genuinely trusts until the end is Marlon. Not even his wife or his own mother comforts him. The look of diappointment and betreyal was evident as he watches his best friend lie to him shamelesly. You can see him believing him until Marlon says Everything unfolds in front of his eyes and he has to pretend and go along what they wanted to.

The music here is fucking brilliant. Anytime the music gets emotional it is cut off by a sinister tone, signaling that all this is fake. That every sentimental line his ‘best friend’ says to him is written down by someone else for the sake of monetary value. That is heart-wrenching.

“I’d have to be in on it too.”
I take this as his way of apologizing to Truman for being apart of this while not admitting that there’s anything going on. A very meaningful line.

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I was shocked at this scene to see that Marlon was being fed lines. It wasn't until this scene that I understood that EVERYTHING Truman knew was a lie.

The cruelest of all the actor roles in the Truman Show.

That moment when Truman says “everybody seems to be in on it” and Marlon can’t even look him in the eye. The crushing realisation on Truman’s face says it all. He’s right, everyone’s in on it.

No one seems to try to understand Marlon side and why this scene is important for him. He grew up with Truman - but he knows the truth and has to keep lying to him. Everyday he woke up and spent all day with him as a kid and an adult. I think he is being honest (even If It is his line) saying that hes the closest thing he has to a brother.
They both spent their lifes being watched. The blue and red pill - Truman doesnt know but Marlon knows - both puppets.

2:20 they almost got him
Then at 2:35 you can see the realization kick in. Such incredible acting from Jim Carrey. He transitioned from heartbroken because of confusion to heartbroken because he realized his best friend was part of it too perfectly

Props for Marlon's actor. I can see the pain in his face when he was telling Truman he wouldn't lie to him, the pause and then taking his eyes away and sip the can of beer. He started there as a kid actor and God knows how frequently those kids have it rough.
