I tried installing Gentoo on my workstation (bare metal) and daily drove it for a week... Running it on real hardware certainly presented some challenges but it was overall quite pleasent to use!

I did a stage-1 install on 200 mhz pentium back in like 2004/2005. It took quite awhile, but it ran smoothly once it was up. It was difficult, but I learned a ton doing the install at the time.

I use OpenBSD BTW... (sorry, I had to do it). Thanks for a nice video. Gentoo seems interesting for some reason.

I'm really not a fan of the kind of youtubers that feel the need to tell you what distro you should and shouldn't be using, despite their opinion changing every 3 months. They come across as knowledgable and experienced and in many ways they are, but they're just click baiting and rage baiting.

The best distro is the one that you like the most. There are issues with all of them, nothing is perfect, just enjoy what you can.

I know it seems slightly off topic, but just wanted to say that your video is great as its non-judgmental and the right-hand side of my YT recommended right now are a lot of "This is the BEST package manager" and other nonsense. I'm not going to name names, but people like those that rhyme with "Time" embody some of the worst and most annoying aspects of the Linux community. The arrogant elitist.
