just tested with a D3100 and all is well - auto focus is fine - was told by currys staff that auto focus doesnt work on the D3200 so best to go in store and have a go first if you can

yea i used it at a football game and when it got dark i just used my flash and i got some great shots

I think apo also gives slightly sharper image quality

APO means apochromatic and it reduces chromatic aberrations. Nothing to do with the autofocus motor.
