How to Change Gear QUICKLY in a Manual Car / Stick Shift

preview_player
Показать описание
Changing gear faster in a manual or stick shift car is worth practising, safely and from the bottom up! Remember that changing gear quickly in your standard car increases the risk of you damaging your transmission, clutch, engine, tyres or even spinning the car with a RWD.

Changing gear quickly can be done in several ways, a more gentle approach will allow you to stay quick whilst lessening the wear on your transmission, or you can slam gears like no tomorrow. It is up to you but be warned that the harder you shift, the more likely you are to break something!

Low gears you change slow and high gears you change quick its all about getting those revs to match for ultimate smoothness and the least wear.

I passed my test around 7 months ago now and I'm only just getting smoother gear changes. Initially, I would put the clutch in, bring it to the friction point and then add throttle but I found that when I had to accelerate hard, I always slipped the clutch. Now, I'm leaving the clutch in longer until the revs drop and I'm getting much smoother changes. Thanks Paynos, your videos help enormously mate!🤙

I just realized I’ve firmed a bad habit, I let out very quickly after first. Thanks, hopefully my shifts will feel smoother understanding that.

Welcome back my dude. Proper manly video this. Miss shifts happen to everyone or grinding gears. Scary but rewarding when you get a manual right!

Hey bro, Ive been a subscriber for about a year now. I just today passed my driving exam and now I never have to worry about it again. I did the exam six times and I am so happy to have my license. Just wanted to share the good news. See you later

Beware when preloading the shifter as this can wear the selector forks in the gearbox over time.

That tip with letting the revs drop is definitely a case of know your car also. It depends a lot on your engine's free spinning intertia - for example my petrol Civic's revs drop so quickly that if you don't change gear extremely fast, the clutch ends up spinning the engine back up instead. However in my diesel van with an absolutely massive flywheel I have the opposite. I would get a burst of acceleration, but the anti-slip stops me from adding any power until the clutch is fully engaged and matched with the engine. Irritating, when you're trying to get a quick 1-2 off a roundabout.

Fantastic video dude. You explain a lot of things and it's a lot to take in, but I find that these are definitely helpful and it takes time but I slowly start implementing these habits into my driving over time. =)

Been looking at first cars, so far my favourite is the Audi A1 sport 1.4 at £2000 but I used your insurance tips video and got it to £1600 by adding my parents and slightly changing job title from plant fitter to plant engineer saved me £200

Loving your videos mate, very professionally done.
I also like how you talk to the audience as if they're your friends. It's really relaxed and helps with relaying the information across as it isn't rushed! Keep it up!
