I've always been nostalgic about the 80s, and since the world is unfolding in so many bad directions, I've become even more nostalgic of that golden decade.

Yeah, a lot of messed up stuff happened but it's still one of the most amazing decades ever.

I'm 55 years old. The 80's was the future.

The Digital keyboard synthenzier was invented in 1983 changing the sound of music. (Michael Jackson for example). Music was so good in the 80's, that's all I play as a DJ.

I graduated high school in 1982.

The 80's were a larger-than-life decade that I'm glad I got to live through during my pre-teen and teenage years. So many memories from that time that I will always cherish -- getting cool toys for x-mas like Transformers, Star Wars and A-Team action figures, hanging out with my cousins in the summertime and swimming in their pool, playing little league baseball, eating all kind of junk food like hot dogs, candy, soda, etc., playing video games in the local arcade and at home with my gaming systems, acting in the annual high school musical production, listening to so many cool rock and metal bands on my cassette player, and the list goes on and on. It was the last really joyous time in my life before the responsibilities, burdens and stresses of adulthood set in the following decade. It felt like getting the plug pulled on an awesome shindig, and everybody got a rude awakening that the good times were over. Anyone who's been through that transitional period between the exciting 80's and the dreary 90's will tell you it wasn't a pleasant transition. The Seattle grunge scene replaced the fun heavy metal bands, AIDS forced itself into the public sphere with the death of rock icon Freddie Mercury, and by-and-large, everything 80's was considered obsolete and out-of-touch with the serious, dull, dreary 90's. I kept flying the flag to support all things 80's, but people like me were few and far between. Granted, I got with the times like everyone else, but I liked what I liked, and a change in trends wasn't going to change that for me. There will never be another time as wonderful and fun as the 80's! Those of you who weren't fortunate enough to live through that time surely missed out on something special!

The 80's gave us Personal Computers, The Sony Walkman, and The Safety Dance. And also Mr. Crazy Hair from A Flock of Seagulls, and the incredible band Haircut 100. I mean, up until that point, I had no idea where we were going from here.

It is so strange to hear how the 80's are talked about today. My wife and I grew up with the Duck and Cover drills in schools, Mr. Fred Rodgers was the first celebrity to kiss a child with AIDS on the head in front of reporters, and the fall of the Berlin Wall still brings tears of joy to my eye. Funny how it's history book stuff to the current youth and colored with nostalgia of those my age.

The 80s were a great decade. TV was awesome especially primetime.. there were video games, arcades, some of the things we have today, but kids still spent most of their days outside (especially in the summer). Man, I wish it was still like this.

I was 20 in 1985 so I was in the middle of the 80's. I loved it. Loved the 90's even more. Culturally, America flat-lined in 2000.

The 80s really were rad for lots of different things. It was my decade, I would like to revisit the 80s for all the "rad" stuff.

I remember the Reese's Pieces thing being a big product placement/tie-in for ET. Baskin Robbins even had a limited edition ice cream in honor of it with the candies mixed in :)

Halley's Comet 1990s
Hale-Bopp was an unusually bright comet that swung near Earth in the late 1990s, reaching its closest approach to the planet in 1997. It was most spectacular in the Northern Hemisphere and visible to the naked eye for about 18 months. Hale-Bopp was probably one of the most viewed comets in history.
