The Indian Navy is planning a class of anti-ballistic missile cruisers known as Project 18 NGD. They are expected to be the Rajput-class Guided Missile Destroyers' replacement. The Warship develop Bureau (WDB) will develop the ships, with a total of 5-10 ships anticipated. The project will begin after the Visakhapatnam-class destroyer is completed.

Some corrections. The imported weapons are all manufactured locally and are indianized. So "integration " issues would be nominal. India doesn't import the weapons systems as is from the source country. They are mostly under tech transfer and are indianised

What surprised me is the knowledge of people who commented . Clearly average Indians know much more about their defence systems than perhaps average American

India already have SMART torpedo system.
I think they decided to keep RBU to hard kill incoming Torpedos.

The author made a factual error when he said that "Western" pods and weapons cannot be integrated with Russian aircraft. Russian aircraft of the Indian Air Force routinely use Israeli weapons and Israeli pods (targeting, recce and LOROP). The weapons include air to air missiles and air to ground cruise missiles.

A lot of weapon systems have been made under a joint venture. Let's say Barak8 which is a joint venture of Israel and India and Brahmos is a product of Indo-Russian joint venture. Rest all the weapon system have be indigenized.

Sukhoi 30 MKIs have Israeli, Indian and French missiles integrated with them. So all our future platforms are now capable of launching most of the missiles we have acquired over time...

Size matters. Guided-Missile Destroyers have reached the size and tonnage of Guided-Missile Cruisers. Same with Guided-Missile Frigates, which are starting to reach the size and tonnage of Guided-Missile Destroyers. Modern AEGIS-type or newer multifunction radars, VLS missile systems, medium-calibre guns, main power plants, engines and sonars all need plenty of deck/below deck space, as well as room for modernization and future-proofing the design.

Zumwalt class destroyers are over 15000 tons. Izumo is much larger - 26000?
