I did the first one once. I was in a gas station with my 2 year old. I grabbed a drink and as i was turning i saw my son dart for the door and i shoved everything in my pockets(phone, keys, THE DRINK), and darted out the door after him. I came back in with my son in tow and when i stepped in i saw a woman behind the counter on the phone and she looked up and said something real quick and hung up. I got to the counter and apologized profusely for leaving the store with the drink. She seemed upset at first but as i explained what happened she laughed and said she's got a little one and has had something similar happen, but shes never seen someone shove stuff in their pocket to chase their kid. She called the cops back and told them everything was good.

When I was 14 got accused of stealing literally a dollars worth of super glue once because I put it in a shirt pocket so I could put my cold hands in my pants pockets. We didn’t even leave the building and the guy was jumping up and down with accusation…

Unfortunately for him my dad is a cop lol

This is why it’s ideal to take a shopping cart or shopping basket with you when shopping so you showcase your intent to shop and avoid suspicion of shoplifting.

One time when I was 12, I pocketed a book light at Walgreens to ask my parents to get it for me, but I completely forgot about it and left the store. Literally nobody knew about it and on the way back home I realized it was still in my pocket, so crushed by guilt I told my parents that I had it and to this day they still don't believe it was an accident. We did take it back to the store though.

I got detained when I was 12 because I was shopping for school supplies, I got a backpack from the store and started putting stuff in the backpack. Tag was still on it and everything. Some 50 year old woman with her kids accused me, and HER kids were on my side telling her to leave me alone. But this made her more angry and said “I have to pay for my kids school supplies, why should you get away with stealing?” She called the cops and got herself arrested in front of her kids. This was 2007 and I remember it like yesterday. I was actually worried I’d be in trouble, to be honest.

Law by Mike, as a young African American adult; I find that being knowledgeable of the law can lead to not only protecting one's rights; but additionally one's life. You appear to have a genuine mission to make aspects of American Law easier to be understood by the youth. So thank you.

Even when the United States signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC); however, it remains the only United Nations member state to have not ratified it after Somalia ratified it in 2015. The last one, even Somalia ratified it!!

In the uk, the stealing laws are a bit different, way more relaxed.
