The biggest difference between the two is that Law had a whole arc that showed us his backstory and gave him more depth and character, while Kid had his backstory explained in an SBS and never seems to grow or change as a character.

We forgive Law because he's shown us that he's more than his mistakes, but the only things we've ever seen from Kid are his mistakes.

Kid gets clowned on because every bad thing that happened to him was his undoing while Law at least tried to play it smart.

While Law did ignore human trafficking in Punk Hazard, he did play a part in stopping it.

Kid lost his arm to Beckman because he was stupid enough to try and pick a fight with Shanks immediately after going into the New World. Law at least made an alliance with Luffy to beat Doflamingo which was successful unlike Kid was with Beckman and he was at least able to get his arm back.
Kid decided to fight Kaido even though he lost to Beckman and got imprisoned while Law got imprisoned by Hawkins to save his own crew mates.
Kid being overconfident after beating Big Mom with Law decided to fight Shanks only to be easily defeated and lose his ship and Poneglyph rubbings. Law didn’t want to confront Blackbeard and Teech was the one who confronted him and he had no choice but to fight BB which failed since BB has decent haki and two overpowered devil fruits with one being able to nullify his.
This is why I think Kid is more of a bum than Law. Kid made these choices and didn’t think of the consequences while Law made smart plans and was some times in situations that were beyond his control.

The biggest factor is their introductions, Law was the reason Luffy was able to escape marine ford so fans immediately liked him much more. Kid was goin around making a name for himself by killing the weak but getting clapped by anyone stronger which made him look worse despite him and law having pretty similar Ls.

Also doesnt help that Law got a sad backstory and was with the strawhats for a good couple years irl so he got even more favoritism in comparison to Kid who wasn't really given anything outside of ass beatings and a somewhat one sided rivalry with Luffy.

Law knows his place, Kidd tried to spin it back on Shanks AFTER losing his arm to his first mate. Law is calculated, even if he makes mistakes or something doesn't go as planned. Kidd is an idiot

Law takes strategic "L's",
Eustass chests up and asks for "L's".

The way I see it is that the difference is their pride.

Kidd has always been prideful, that’s his character, but he hasn’t had the strength to fully back up all of his talk, he is strong, but never Yonko level like he truly believed he was.

-They both lost their arms, Kidd tried fighting a Yonko while fresh in the New World while Law went into a fight he knew he wouldn’t be able to win, hoping to at least somehow mess with Doffy’s plans.

-Kidd lost to Kaido and got imprisoned while Law gave himself up to have his crew freed in a selfless act, giving up his pride as a captain to help his friends

-After Wano, Kidd tried spinning it back on Shanks, thinking he was on top of the world after taking down Big Mom, his pride once again got the better of him when there was a peaceful way out.
Law on the other hand got jumped, he was thrust into a fight he wouldn’t have willingly taken at that stage in his journey. While he was strong, he knew his limits.

That is the primary difference that I see, Kidd talks himself up more while actively getting into fights he can’t win, and refusing to be humbled, while Law tries to play it smart but gets dealt a bad hand time and time again

Kid gets clowned because it was his own stupidity that got him to where he is right now while law got jumped. And also law actually has a compelling story

The main reason I prefer law is purely because he actually has a fully fleshed out backstory. Kidd just gets less special treatment and less screen time. Law has a sad backstory and is overall in my opinion a more compelling character. I am not even going to touch on power scaling because frankly I think it ruins the story and makes it less compelling.

law is Chill laid back and actually thinks things through before he does them and when he does get over his head or it takes a a loss he learns from the experience or at least try

kid is the opposite he's brash hot headed overconfident and thinks that he's hot shit and that he can beat anybody and never learns from his mistakes that's why it's fun to watch him get humbled or cooked

There's no double standard here, they're both pirates. The reason people like Law is because he has had Luffy's back when needed. He's also intelligent and able to learn from his experiences.

I like both characters. Either way they are both victims of not being the main character.

Law ultimately had a goal that had positive implications, which is defeating Doflamingo and therefore freeing a kingdom from Doflamingo's tyranny and the world from SMILEs. Kid on the other hand attacked Shanks for purely selfish reasons and with overall negative implications, because Shanks is a man of the people as far as we know.

If Law acted like Kidd I feel like less people would like him, but basically imo Law has a kindness to him that he hides, the way he was willing to die with Luffy, his backstory, his care for his crew and his friendship with Bepo, Penguin and Shachi, and his friendship/alliance with the Straw Hats, Law is still selfish in many ways and cold, but he avoids killing others and putting his crew at risk, the way he was willing to save Zoro over completing his plan, meanwhile Kidd acted dumb trying to attack Shanks for selfish reasons and got his ship destroyed and possibly got his whole crew killed. Kidd has the potential to be a better person but he's impulsive and selfish in destructive ways that harm himself and others.

Law wasn't overlooking it. He was just trying to treat the disease, not the symptoms. He was going after doflamingo, and then kaido, who were the sources of the suffering, while ceasar was just a symptom of doflamingo and kaido. Law has shown that he genuinely cares about people. Kid is a complete menace, on the other hand. His crew is full of murderers, and its said that they have killed tons of innocent people. Killer literally said he murders anyone who makes fun of his voice, and designed his weapons specifically to kill people. Like, feats aside, Law is a much more morally approachable person. Kid is not.

I know this is an opinion but it's honestly what I think the true answer is, not only is law the cooler looking character design-wise, I personally find kid to be more annoying.

Law didn't know the full extent of what was happening with the kids until later in the arc, we see him act unsettled when talking to caesar and he leaves so that he doesn't do something rash. At the end of the arc he uses his powers to help them and remove the drug. Law can be a menace but he's nowhere on the same level as Kid

I think we all agree Law is cooler and more of a homie but I actually really like both of their powers and designs 🔥 Shame they got clowned on after Wano 🤡
