Twilight Struggle, the only game that has caused my friend and I to rage quit on (on different play-throughs) and still gone back to as a quintessential strategy tug of war between nations. Epic!

You should try Sekigahara it's an intresting one from GMT. Where the design meets up with what happened historically. It's one of those games like Twilight Struggle where mechanics meet theme and that really grabs my attention...

Oooh, me too, me too. This company makes some terrific games.

1) Time of Crisis
2) Twilight Struggle
3) Sekigahara - Have you tried this one?
4) Fields of Despair
5) Liberty or Death

Thanks for the video. Among the ones I've played, my favourite would be: 1: For the People 2: Empire of the Sun 3: Musket & Pike Series 4: Pursuit of Glory 5: Here I Stand... (with honourable mentions to Paths of Glory, U.S Civil War and Combat Commander)
Liked all the games you listed though, except for Talon which for some reason I found exceedingly dry and flavourless.

Nice idea for a list - GMT are often overlooked. Also well said about Napoleonics, it's the pinnacle of the C & C series (I've played most of the others). Definitely try out the Generals, Marshals, and Tacticians expansion if you get the chance, it's excellent.

Thanks very much for the vid - enjoyed it.

Thanks for the list. I just purchased Dominate Species. Fantastic game. It really is a war game. Thunder Alley and Twilight Struggle will probably be my next purchases

Had the same experience with Thunder Alley. I'd heard it was great and saw it on sale and thought I'll just try it for the holidays. Wow! The whole group had a blast with it. Played many times since. Now Apocalypse Road is out and I like that better. Racing with guns.

Cody, I've found that our gaming tastes are remarkably similar. If you have not played it already, I would wholeheartedly recommend Sekigahara as a must-play GMT title. It is a sublime blend of mechanics and theme, easy to learn but difficult to master. I think you'd love it!

Interesting choices. My GMT favorites lie on the heavier side. I think Paths of Glory is one of the finest war games ever designed. All time classic, worth every hour played. Virgin Queen, Wilderness War, and Successors probably all make my personal top 5. VQ is a grand epic that improves upon Here I Stand. WW is a super asymmetrical cdg that plays in a couple hours... and Successors is multiplayer CDG goodness...

As always, awesome list and video, Cody. I thought you would have choose SE4X as your nr. 1 GMT game. Perhaps you should try it again with the 2 wonderful expansions: Close Encounters and Replicators. Ciao from Italy!

P.S.: Say hello to Margareth too. XD

Not a COIN fan? I really enjoy these lists. I'm sure Fantasy Flight is next, right?

My top 5 GMT games are:
5 - Liberty or Death
4 - Fields of Fire (solitaire, but it doesn't feel like it)
3 - Dominant Species
2 - Triumph and Tragedy
1 - Twilight Struggle

Napoleonics is the one for me, I buy my dad an expansion every birthday/Christmas. Next is Prussia. We also play Twilight Struggle through Steam while I’m at uni

I am genuinely surprised to not see Liberty or Death and Combat Commander: Europe, only because I figured that was your wheelhouse. I always forget Talon is GMT.

Cody, have you tried any of the Coin games, I would be interested to hear what you think of them.

Here is my top 5:1: Combat Commander: Europe + Pacific2: Conquest of Paradise3: Dominant Speices4: Thunder Alley5: 1846
I recently bought SE4X and think it might get the 5th place. Unfourtunatly I am not a big fan of TS. Maybe need to try it again, its just that its so annoyibg when you get s crap hand and everythibg you donob your turn helps your opponent more then you... The mandatory event thibg is bad imo. What I understsnd is that is not the case with games like Wilderness War, might like them better.

Yes, please keep making these lists. I'm fairly new to GMT Games and wargaming in general, so more info on them the better. I'm curious about Talon. You said you like Space Empires with two. What is your recommended player count for Talon?
