As an animator, I feel obliged to answer to the title : No. Or if it is, then that's depressing.

The strength of animation is not simply in copying reality except with drawings or 3D models, it's reinterpreting motion into an appealing creation. There's a reason big studios which could easily afford motion capture, like Disney or Pixar, still do it the old fashioned way.

It's not exaggerated to say that animation is about making sure that every single frame works and is important. Something that you can't get with AI generation over live footage.

So please, understand our growing discomfort to seeing the achievements of AI generation and questions like those. Yes, the result is impressive and cool, I won't deny it, I also find it cool. But it's also ominous to a passion to which some of us devote a great part of our lives.

If you combine these AIs with EbSynth, and the AI style doesn't change the shape of the image much, you can get this amazing look except it'll be more temporally consistent. No batch image processing, and it'd require more labor, but you can get temporal consistency AND AI-driven rotoscope animation styles right now.

A lot of the point of animation is creating exaugurated reality, though. Just plopping it on real scenes doesn't really do anything.

This is a bit offensive to animators 😅 animators like myself will tell you this is not animation, this is rotoscoping, its more like putting a filter on top of something like live action or drawing or keyframing on top of it, its really not animating. It's the same with motion capture, it is NOT animation.

Is this really animation, though? Animation is bringing life something unmoving, the inverse of inanimate. This is just putting a filter over live footage. A very complex filter, but still a filter.

Honestly not surprised to see CC joining the ai push, they talked a lot about nfts as well, just really hope you guys listen to the art communities concerns and consider what effect your channels has 😓

I'm not going to lie I don't see this truly ever replacing animation. The point of animation isn't really to be a drawn version of realistic stuff and most of the appeal of animation is the medium and care put in by artists. Sure, you could emulate the artstyle, but not the care put in, and I don't think the technology to imitate the actual animation itself will be around anytime soon. Also this mostly looks like a filter thrown over an image because that's mostly what it is. I don't know if that's ever going to be escapable.

Not really. This will allow people access who didn't have it before for small projects, but artistic projects are marked by individual choice and style. That's something different.
