Is This the McDonald’s of the Future?

Roughly 80% of McDonald’s total emissions come from its supply chain. They’re trying to reverse some of that damage by opening up their first net zero carbon restaurant in England. "What really matters is what's on the menu and where is that sourced from? And that is going to be beef and chicken, and you've got a huge amounts of commodity-driven deforestation and emissions behind that that we need to dig into and manage and reduce," said Dexter Galvin, Global Director of Corporations and Supply Chains at CDP. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer explains.

Maybe the ice cream machines will end up working

I personally think this is a great idea McDonalds have done, would be amazing for all the branches to follow suit. Good on them!

I will only call it the McDonald’s of the future if the ice cream machine works.

I love being eco-friendly, but I miss the cute little red buildings with arches surrounding them. 😥

To all the people concerned about the ice cream machine, it needs to be cleaned and the process literally takes hours so it's either down for maintenence or they serve you safety hazard ice cream which leads to someone suing the company so the easier way to tell people is that it's broken

All that high technology, and the ice cream machine is still broken.

This is not futuristic. But its a good way to reduce emissions. Cant think how much was the cost to install the solar and the wind turbines just to power the small building

Of course, this gives McDonalds a reason to force owners/franchisee's to spend a ton of money renovating or even tearing down and rebuilding the restaurant to make it net zero or close to it. McDonalds will reap all the benefits (money and good publicity) and the franchisees will just pass the cost of their menu onto consumers. The costs always end up getting paid by consumers one way or another.

Only worth it if they updated the ice cream machine too.

Impressive. I thought I was going to just see solar panels installed on top of the roof. Imagine if all new builds both residential and commercial were held to half of these environmental standards.

It wouldnt make sense to rebuild the already built mcdonalds', that would just make more waste instead of becoming net zero. But its a good idea for newly built ones

I bet that new McDonald’s has better Wifi and working ice cream machines

Selling products that hurt people's health while focusing on making their buildings eco-friendly is like a drug dealer that only uses eco-friendly packaging

If they’re going to do this they better fix the ice cream machines and getting the order correct.

Did they improve their food or start getting order's correct? Been awhile since I had their ice-cream.

What a great use of recyclable materials.
People have been struggle to fine use for all the material. Building material is great.

Using recycled materials I stand for 100% but gets me thinking what’s going to happen with all the old things being taken out? Why not use the materials they already have? I guess they have to start somewhere. Great plan.

Imagine a building that cost more to implement

With all the money they put into their buildings i wish they would put that money into the food they serve.
