It never amazes me how stupid people will be after being warned not to go on the beach or in the water.

**Everyone grabs their camera and heads to the beach**

Here in Japan, we get tsunami alert from earthquakes happening in Southern America. However, this tsunami was a totally new type and the experts did not know enough about this type. Japan has sensors to detect tsunamis in several places in the ocean but the sensors are not made to detect air pressure differences.

This event makes the world seem smaller to me. Anything can happen anywhere that could affect everyone forever

Best thing to do in a Tsunami is STAND ON THE SHORE AND STARE..! and don't forget to park your new car there.

Roughly 8000 km between Tonga and SFO. The tsunami took roughly 7.5 hours to reach the coast. That means the wave travelled at 660 mph, more or less. That’s faster than a commercial jet at cruising speed.

As someone who lives on the gulf coast threatened by constant hurricanes, seeing this hurts my heart. The ocean is such a powerful force and can be so destructive in an instant. I hope people on the island survived.

Who do you know in their right mind is going to stay on the beach and not look for shelter during a tsunami. You don't know if there will be another wave to follow the initial one.

I woke up yesterday to the tsunami warning message, but thankfully I live a mile from the ocean up a huge hill well past the tsunami sign which indicates you are too close to the water. These people are way too close and should have left their homes immediately. Did they not pay attention to the Indonesian and Japanese tsunamis? And to stay so close with a little child in the home? Unbelievable.

a tsunami isn't about the size of the wave but about the amount of water coming in behind said wave.

I just love how people put themselves in danger just to watch it with their own eyes, it’s mind boggling

First person is beyond annoying. "Surviving a tsunami! We out here bruhh!" So stupid.

This is why the Oregon coast had an advisory that many people ignored. In the end, the waves were pretty unimpressive, but if people want to put their own lives in danger, it should all be on them. The problem is that the coast guard would be sent to look for idiots washed out to sea and that's putting other lives in danger.

God forbid we ever get a devastating tsunami in this state. Unbelievable how many volunteers there were for the Seafood Award.

I live in Hawaii and I think it's fascinating to see how the tsunami crossed practically the entire Pacific to affect the West Coast, yet here in Hawaii we didn't experience so much from it. Even in Paracas, Peru they had similar flooding as was seen in northern California. Yet us here in the middle of the Pacific and much closer to the eruption had minimal effects from the tsunami.

One question, why do people not believe ANYTHING that is told to them as far as safety, let alone ANYTHING else..smart individuals!
