Last year I raised a Yorkshire/Berkshire cross and a Duroc. The cross grew much faster than the Duroc and was about 50 pounds heavier at finish.

I have an AGH boar and two AGH/KuneKune mix gilts. While they’re just a bit over a year old, but it takes them a long time to grow. They do graze a bit, but feed costs are still high. And they’re larders.
I’d like to raise some good meat pigs and at the top of my list are Duroc, Berkshire, Chester White and Landrace. The last two are more for mothering instincts for gilts. Would you suggest Duroc or Berkshire for best meat quality? I’m leaning towards Berkshire but I like the muscling of Durocs. Do you suggest keeping them purebred or crossing them? I also favor Durocs for their less aggressive nature since I’m 67 and farm alone. Which breed do you suggest for grazing capability? I don’t want to go broke buying feed. Someone in comments stated that Large Blacks are good grazers, and that’s a good trait. These are for personal/family consumption, not pork production. That said, I would like to produce some good piglets to sell as a feed cost offset. Thanks for any advice you seasoned pork producers can provide. And please tell me why the breed you suggest is more desirable.

I like the idea of heritage breeds, but most are not commercially viable due to small size and slow growth. Does anyone have recommendations for a commercially viable heritage breed for small-scale operation?
