Society will tell you, it depends on WHO is being forgiven.

I love this channel. In the last few months it has become my favorite movie talk channel.

No sensationalism, mature views on film and celebrity, etc.

If this movie truly is about forgiveness, it cannot be woke. Woke is the antithesis to forgiveness

I enjoyed the film, cried a few times as well. My father and I dont have the greatest of a relationship and this spoke to me in many ways. Im grateful my parents are alive and well, would love everyone to watch this film. I know it might no be for everyone but if you have AMC a list should be an easy choice.

Forgiveness exists not just for the person forgiven, but also the person forgiving. Holding on to anger and a sense of being wronged is only useful in the short term, and only if it leads directly to some kind of sense of redress and/or vindication, some kind of change. Too many people right now hold on to real or constructed senses of indignation as though it was a power, an anvil that they will eventually get to drop on some wrong-doer's head, to much applause and satisfaction. Instead, it just comes to define them, identify them; "That idiot that clung to an anvil until it stooped their back."

The people of this Country are past redemption for those that are responsible for the state of it today. For generations those in power have pushed their rhetoric on the People instead of the proper other way around. Nuremberg 2.0 is only the beginning. Accountability is the order of the day.

I think some people have described modern media as empty or pointed to the lack of themes. Forgiveness at least gives you themes. If you look at great artists for the last couple thousands years, a lot of them used religious concepts to add intense depth. In cinema, it's hard to not think of Tarkovsky or Bresson. Choosing to operate on purely rational terms seems like voluntarily having the moral depth of a reptile.

(the religious can be at a level of subtext or whatever. For instance, a scientist playing god might get a sense of trauma from a sense of being deeply violative. I think in Hellraiser, a character uses her wedding dress as a prop while having an affair. It adds something to have a moral universe lurking.)

Are there any worthwhile film festivals to try to get into?

Forgiveness is nothing. Trust is everything.

So tired of the framing around black people in entertainment that it just turns off most people. Sounds like this film had a good message but there is always the sense that some woke message will be inserted or victimhood will be exploited. There is no trust anymore. Remember Boyz in the Hood? That shared that culture without wokeness. Remember when Black Panther was reviewed as a better film than Citizen Kane??? This movie won't make it's money back.

I think this movie is an awesome movie heartfelt well written. You know what i'm tired of seeing slavery. You know what i'm tired of seeing woke films. In the African-American community we haven't had a film about fatherhood and the side effects of it Since south central. This movie is not a woke film this movie is not counter culture film. This film is about a subject very rarely films about in the black community. I believe it tackled its theme with substance and grace. Anybody that caused this a woke film mustang joy with them stallings of the ernest goes to series AKA tyler perry presents madea infiniti film franchise.

Chris might appreciate knowing this: Exhibiting Forgiveness was funded in part by a zany Grosse Pointe billionaire

I just want to respectfully challenge how the topic of cancel culture works its way into a "film review" within the first two minutes. Seems like a stretch given this movie has nothing to do with that. Forgiveness about righting wrongs, not letting people do whatever they want without consequence.

Talking this movie and discussing “wokeness” is such a nasty and vile thing

I'm confused as to why he would assume the movie had to do with social justice or wokeness? If they were any other race, would he have assumed that? My guess is no.
