They are in his car, laying down on the bench seat (lots of old cars had one long bench seat for the front seat), and with the radio on, the dashboard lights would be on. Just bright enough to see in the dark. So because the dashboard lights are on, he can see 'paradise', meaning his girlfriend's (presumably) naked body.

Meatloaf was a national treasure and sorely missed; but this album will be listened to for a very very long time🤘❤️. RIP meatloaf😢

She did give it up. He promised to love her til the end of time. They married and he started praying for the end of time so he could end his time with her😊

The dashboard light is literal. The baseball diamond is a metaphor.

No, dashboard lights aren't a metaphor. Picture two 17 year old kids, parked by a lake in a car, barely dressed. What's illuminating them? The lights on the dashboard. In this case, paradise is a bit of a metaphor for a woman's naked body, but the dashboard lights are just dashboard lights. Now, the baseball game, that WAS a metaphor (standard sex metaphors, "he got to first base" "he got to second base" etc...). And you do understand she DID give it up in the end. It took him promising and all, but she did give it up.

From the Best Album of all time. The King of Lyrics, Jim Steinman and the wonderful voice of Meat. RIP both.
Try Bat next or For Crying Out Loud....even better!

Kids used to park in the car after a date activity to spend some alone time. Having the car ignition in the accessory position allowed them to listen to the radio with the car off. The radio has a light coming from the dashboard. He could see 'paradise' by the dashboard light.

Two other Meatloaf numbers I think you'll enjoy: "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" and "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth."

The lady in the video is Karla. She is not the actual singer but the actual singer wasn't going to do the tour so they used the lady who was. The actual singer is Ellen Foley. She is also the subject matter in the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I go". She was also Billy in the second season of TV comedy Night Court.

It’s starts with prom night, his ruffle shirt, and the songs ends with them married and they can’t stand each other.

Well, she actually DID give it to him when he "swore he would love her until the end of time". Fast forward a few years: "And now I am praying for the end of time..." Brilliant songwriting by Jim Steinman.

I hope you enjoyed the song. Meat was quite the performer.
Jim Steinman written songs are generally heavy with the keyboards.
They had a number of hits during the late 70's but the song I recommend is "I'd Do Anything For Love, But I Wouldn't Do That"
Another gem of a rock theater performance. You might need to brush up on your Disney stories.
Listen til the end to find out what he won't do...

I saw the Bat if Hell tour in person. Some called it a rock opera. I called it great. Every song was done so well.

4:24 - LOL! The dashboard light is actually quite literal. He sees paradise - his date's beauty - illuminated only by the lights of the car's dashboard.
