The whole "Bat out of Hell" album is just great song after great song. Everyone had this album. RIP, Loaf!

"I swore I'd love you till the end of time." "Now I'm waiting for the end of time to hurry up and arrive." GREAT lyricism. Great humor. Great take on teenage hormonal issues. I saw Meat Loaf live perform this and, in my humble opinion, the live version was more awesome than the record! Thank you Aileen. Love your reactions and you're excellent commentary. Stay groovy. Peace and love to all. God bless us all.

Meatloaf always said, he wasn't a singer, he was an actor, and some of his roles were singers.

This is one of the greatest storytelling songs of all time. It was written by Jim Steinman, who composed most of Meaty's hits. There was a point in time when they parted ways, and Meat Loaf went without much success, but before they both passed, they got back together for "Bat Out of Hell 2". The girl in the video is Karla DiVito, Robby Benson's wife, and the voice is Ellen Foley (who appeared in the first season of Night Court). The baseball voice is long time Yankee player/announcer, Phil Rizzuto. Steinman was an impeccable storyteller, and Marvin Aday (Meat Loaf) was the perfect storyteller voice for his compositions. A voice of a generation! Loved your reaction!

I love watching people discover a song that has been a part of your life for 45 years. We used to drive around as teenagers, a car full of people singing our parts to this. And then one night we all went to see Meat Loaf in concert. Lord that was a good night!

No record company wanted to sign him. Oddly, it wasn't his look, they didn't like his voice.
His first album sold 22 million copies.

Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad should definitely be next. Such a great song.

I actually had lunch with him once. When I was in the Navy, he and his family came out to the ship since he was friends with my Captain, and we got to have lunch and get autographs. No concert, but it was a trip to meet him.

Love to see the faces of people when they realize what this song is actually about. With Meat Loaf's theatrical background, he could make every performance a full production. Karla DeVito is the woman in the video, but it's the voice of Ellen Foley doing the singing. For the video, Ellen was busy on Broadway and really wasn't hip in what the concept was supposed to be. Later on, she was on the TV show "Night Court". For the baseball narration, it was an actual announcer that did it not knowing how they were going to use it. And yes, brings back a lot of great memories.

Meat is the best, RIP. You’ll love his “Two out of three ain’t bad”.

The female voice is Ellen Foley because this is the album version but we see Karla DeVito in the video because she was the one that did the tour (they're both great singers btw)
Karla said that Meat Loaf really went for it every time they sang this song basically tickling her tonsils. No hollywood kissing

One of the greatest live 'theatrical' rock performances ever. I never get tired of it. Meat was an actor, who could sing VERY VERY well!

This is one of Meat Loaf's iconic songs from the album Bat Out of Hell. The entire album is pure gold. This song in particular was an anthem to many of us kids at the time. Meat Loaf's vocals, Jim Steinman's composition and lyrics, and gold was made. The songs were stories with a start, middle and ending with almost "acts" in them.

There are different "styles", even on the album itself, with more upbeat songs, more sedate, and in the videos they are all over the top, theatric, giving the style to be called rock opera.

It isn't the actual singer on stage. The actual singer couldn't do the tour so the lady is lip syncing. Meat Loaf actually lost his voice after the Bat Out of Hell tour was over causing the label to sue him for $85 million dollars. His story is incredible.

And fun fact; Bat Out of Hell hit #1 on the album chart and 20 years later, Bat Out of Hell II hit #1.

That moment at the end when you finally understand what's he's saying is priceless. There's always that pause.

Ellen Foley, who is the female voice in this song, didn't want to do the tour for the album, so they hired Karla DeVito to sing her role. On tour, Karla sang the part live on stage, but this was the "official video" for the song, so they overdubbed Ellen Foleys voice (so she could be officially credited) on Karla DeVitos performance. It was suggested that it was the "make out" session under the baseball commentary, that swayed Ellen to not do the tour, as she felt it was not appropriate. Also a lot of people don't 'get' the final part, and think he is singing regret the next morning. He is supposed to have kept his promise and married her, but they married for lust, not love, and over time the relationship broke down, hence the "it was long ago and it was far away, and it was so much better than it is today" but as he swore on his mothers grave that he would love her till the end of time, he won't leave, even though they are both miserable.

Jim Steinman was a musical genius. Everything he wrote for Meat Loaf is a masterpiece.
