Auction Boat with a Deep Discount on this HUGE 440 Carver Aft Cabin Motor Yacht! Plus a bonus 36 Carver.

I'm not sure which storm damaged this boat but I know it was before Hurricane Helen. The starting bid was $7,500 for this Carver but by the time I got this video up the auction ended and someone must of bought it because its no longer listed and unfortunately I can't find out what it sold for.
What do you think it was worth assuming the worst, that is salt water in the engine room?

I've worked on Carvers in the past. They're not great boats but big and roomy as liveaboards. I'm a sailor and former sailboat builder, so these boats aren't really on my radar anyway. But under 10k for a decent, spacious liveaboard is not too bad. As long as the hull is good and there are no leaks. Things like rails and things are easily replaced, especially in Florida.

I had a '43 express cruiser. Large bi-level cockpit, enormous foredeck, while down below you had 6'4" headroom, u-shaped galley, typical salon, head w/ sep shower, etc.

But bottom line, yes, express cruisers are sexy to look at, the trade-offs are immense when it comes to interior space. They're best suited for day boats, overnighters, weekenders for a couple.

The 44' Carver is in a different league entirely. A gorgeous layout, generous beam, upscale flooring, diesels, excellent galley and dinette, good-size heads, and I think the lines are perfect.

OTOH, I'm not into the 36" at all. I never liked that period that started in the 2000s where the boats looked like hi-top sneakers. Not a nautical look in the slightest. I suppose I'm just a traditionalist and prefer making compromises that give you proper side decks, rails, and other features that favor seaworthiness and classic styling over fashionable interior spaces.

I would make it dependent on the engines.
What you showed can be fixed easyly with not too much money.
However i suspect this is an insurance write off because something bad happened to the engines.

So many hoops and regulations uninsured or over insured boats. Good lord sounds like fun fun. I like it!

Just a heads up for anybody looking for an aft Cabin boat, regardless of manufacturer.... be sure you splash the boat and go into the AFT bedroom usually the they're very splashy and noisy, unless they have the cockpit

15, 000 tops ...You could dial that boat in cosmetically for 50 grand plus solar... throw another 50 grand in engine room and have a pretty smokin hot loop boat you would have to do allot of the work yourself but o well it allows you to know the fingerprint of that vessel good for future maintenance issues ... But 4000 plus hours on them pony's could be a bit of a bummer and costly.

Open the seacocks, and pressure wash from the top down with an anti-bacterial...It'll be worth it to someone to refurbish. It looks like great bones to work with. Would love to see a tour of the big ship showed in your drive in and out of the shipyard. Unless something fell over an punctured the tank, I don't see how a diesel tank would leak in only 30 years.

Brian, I am up in Georgia. This got me thinking after Helene hit. I wonder if someone could assemble a bunch of these battered boats on a piece of property and create a tiny home community? Hmmmm. I don't know if it would be legal or not, but it sure could provide a bunch of housing for folks.

With bull repair, age and mold, leaks, I’d go $5000 and not more. It’s gonna cost and a lot of care to shape up.

I would pay south of 10k. Its going to cost close to 100k to bring it back. It adds up quick and this is an old boat. I worked for Sea Ray and it pricey as hell just to sand and repaint the bottom. Could be nice tho. Glad to see the teak in good shape. Great video
