Many shotokan grading syllabus are similar, but there are many small variations,our shotokan yellow belt syllabus consists of the basics (kihon) in this video, three step sparring (sanbon kumite) and the kata Heian Nidan (peaceful mind two).

I failed my yellow belt test when I was 9 or 10 years old. I did fine in the exercises but the peering eyes and giggles during the belt test just made my stage fright take over and I went blank and imploded. The instructor said it would be 6 months until I could take the test again. There was no way I was going to be the class idiot for 6 months so I quit.. He gave me the usual bullshit speech that life is about overcoming challenges, etc. I said in essence that may be true but it doesn't mean my parents have to pay for those challenges. At first I thought he was just baiting for me to quit but he kept calling me and my parents begging me to come back. I guess the lack of my parents checks was a "challenge".

I did yellow belt and orange belt before 24 years.. Thennagain i restarted from the beginning before 5 years andbgained yellow belt
But both time we had 3 kats taukoyiki senda.. Nidan and sandan and also had some fight combination to get yellow belt.. But u r saying there ia katas??

7th kyu Shotokan is orange. 8th kyu is yellow.
