Finally, a Useful Explanation of Electric Potential with Analogy to Gravity | Doc Physics

We move from Force to Energy to Potential (the tricky one) to Field Strength, in a Uniform Gravitational Field and a Uniform Electric Field. You already love gravity, so this will help, I hope.

Thanks so much. This is one of the videos I'm most proud of, actually. I struggle with making potential relevant and meaningful EVERY YEAR. Obviously, it's hugely important as they continue to study physics, though - how you funna do a vector potential if a scalar potential makes no sense?!? Keep up the hard work!

Very useful. Thanks! After watching this video, the first I've experienced of your's, I am convinced that you are the dead pool of physics...

Cleared up in a little under 15 minutes what my professor couldn't do in many lectures, thank you

Your comparison with gravitational fields made understanding Electric Potential much easier for me to understand. Thanks!

I don't know you but this video is awesome! I'm an adjunct physics instructor who discovered your videos when I found your wonderful explanation of Snell's Law with the truck & marching band--my students loved that video! This one is very helpful in drawing connections to concepts that are already familiar, much like what I attempt to do in drawing connections with rotational kinematics, angular momentum, torque, etc to linear kinematics, linear momentum, force, etc.

That is a great video. Just a suggestion though. Instead of saying :Differentiating potential wrt d gives us E, might it not be better and less scary for some people if we say "the rate of change of potential with respect to distance". In the gravity case it would help immediately connecting with slope or gradient, and thereby make the idea of E more obvious ?

Sir can I say that potential is nothing but the measure of strength of a field at a certain distance from the source of the field. Is it right??
