my unemployed body is going to haunt the office is a very accurate description of all the random knowledge silos that vanish when a senior dev leaves

As a senior dev most of my thoughts in meetings are just "what the fuck are you talking about" then smiling and saying "I'll look into it"

Junior: Oh no, we broke something really badly. Are they going to fire us? Senior: Oops. Well, that happened, now I'm stuck in this chair until it's

You know, my very first real job was as a senior programmer translator. I mean, I was also writing code, don't get me wrong, but I'd be called into meetings where the head programmer and the CEO of this (yes, very small) company were screaming at each other, and I'd listen a bit and, say, Karl, when the CEO says “this must be done”, he means that he's worried he'll be embarrassed in his meeting next week unless someone can think of a way to spin it. Bob, when Karl says “this can't be done”, he means that even with the entire budget of the United States armed forces _and a time machine_ he cannot change the laws of physics before your meeting next week. If instead of talking about who is a moron and who is insubordinate we were to, I don't know, have the programmers add an option in the config file while the executives play a round of golf?

I think this work experience got me past the bright-eyed junior phase very quickly.

It's funny that, as a senior mechanic, I can still completely relate to everything in this video.

Even the hairstyle, one is just fresh and full of life, another is hairdo for focused work. Why is this so accurate, lol.

As a UI artist handing over to devs I feel this
Junior: "oh yeah ill gladly do all these changes!"
Senior: "Are you really gonna make me not close my ticket for another 5 minutes because the two elements dont align?"
Yes mike unfortunately alignment is UI 101 our users will die if they see a button 5px off
(Or at least I will)

Why management doesn't take a basic course to understand Devs? It will be the biggest achievement in human history, and a leap of thousands years in technology

How senior do you have to be before it wraps back around to, "thank goodness I actually get to learn something new instead of dealing with the same drudgery day in and day out for ten years?"

"I can not wait to talk to my manager about my career goals" this hits deep. Back wh n we were drinking the corporate coolaid, trusting others with our careers that are not interested in our careers, just how close they can get you to burnout
