We have completely lost the definition of what it means to be a pick-me

God finally someone calls this out! The definition of “pick me” has gone from “a woman who undermines other women to look better in the eyes of men” to “any woman who isn’t stereotypically feminine”. Misogyny has come in a full circle and it pisses me off

We went from "don't bully girls for being different" to "call girls who are different attention seeking".

Pick me literally started as a term to describe women who support abusive and sexist men instead of standing up for other women, and now it's being used to be sexist to women who aren't traditionally movie-star feminine. Wild.

People OVERUSE the hell out of this word AND half the time they aren't even using it right...

The cycle of "you aren't performing this specific type of girlhood that's popular now" bullying will never end, ever

Same thing happened to the term 'Karen'
What was supposed to be for women who treat public service workers terribly, now gets thrown at any woman experiencing some kind of anger or distress- Even if her response is justified!
Misogyny, misogyny everywhere

Or when someone says "i dont really know how to do makeup well" and they're called a pick me, that is so annoying

i once heard it explained as “so, if you dress super feminine and try to be pretty, you’re doing it for a man, but if you don’t try at all and are kind of masculine, you’re doing it for a man?” and that made me immediately disregard the whole idea

Got called one for saying “I don’t wear anything except mascara. I’m not talented enough for anything else.”

People call girls who are masculine in any way "pick-me" and it pisses me off

It's like anything unique about a girl that she wants to talk about just becomes "pick me", even if it's not even THAT unique.
Every woman is different and each of us have our own individual things. Why are we shaming a woman for expressing that?

Any term aimed at specifically women eventually just becomes a way to be misogynistic

I hate this trend so much
I feel like every year or so theres some type of “[Blank] girls are so annoying” trend going around it keeps repeating. it’s just another kind of bullying.

I feel like "pick me" is almost exclusively being used to just shut down women at this point. I very very rarely see it used correctly, it seems to just be a way to discredit someone so a conversation can't go on.

Also, you're allowed to just not wear makeup because you don't like it 😂 it doesn't have to be a skin thing. People call me a pick me online because i like my face better without makeup. I have no moral judgments against makeup. I just don't like wearing it.

one time this girl and her whole friend group just came up to me and started calling me a pick me in front of the whole class just because I don't wear makeup. like I've never even talked to them before. so apparently any girl who doesn't wear makeup everyday is a pick me girl 🌝

As a neurodivergent bisexual, the term 'girl's girl' fills me with existential dread... like mama come pick me up they're about to start villifying me for not being able to comprehend much less conform to the standards of girlhood again

Been called a pick me more than once for mentioning I don't shave my legs and like...do these people think the majority of men PREFER women with unshaven legs? Cuz that has not been my experience!!!

at this point, we’ve circled back to the initial social norms of women HAVING to be traditionally feminine. i recently saw a tiktok where a girl asks how to put on foundation without it feeling cakey, because she had sensory issues, and literally everyone was calling her a pick-me ☠️

here’s your friendly reminder that feminism is about the freedom of choice. even if it’s not a health issue, women are allowed to not want to wear makeup. that doesn’t make them a pick-me, insulting other women for no reason does. which btw if you throw around the word pick-me willy nilly, and make other women feel insecure, that makes YOU a pick-me.
