iPhone Pro Max vs Sony A7II Camera

Comparing the iPhone 11 Pro with a Full Frame Sony A7ii SLR Camera in 2020. Taking identical photos on both the iPhone Pro Max and A7iii, can you tell the difference? Could the iPhone be the perfect Instagram camera? I wanted to know if I could replace my Full Frame Sony A7ii (and Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens) with the iPhone 11 Pro for both my Instagram account and my daily photos.

Comparing real photos you might take with your iPhone/SLR and editing them with my own presets. Do you really need to spend ££££'s on an SLR? Is the iPhone Pro worth it?

See if you can guess the correct photos before the timer runs out.

WHAT DO YOU USE TO TAKE PHOTOS?

Thanks for watching, Chris.

I feel like the problem with a lot of comparisons like this is that the photos you picked are not really taking advantage the main reasons that you would actually buy a ILC camera. If these were photos of a sporting event, your kids playing in the park, dogs running in the yard, etc then the Sony with that lens on it or even a 70-200 2.8 would pull ahead of the iPhone massively. For staged indoor still life photos though, I have to admit the iPhone does a really good job!

You can really tell by the overly sharpness and the high noise level, it's a Iphone

High end Phone pictures are similar or sometimes even better than DSLR camera which needs pro skills to get nice pictures. But...But
In the big screen, there are only one winner...The DSLR

I think its pretty easy to tell. In the closeups depth of field the iPhone make some mistakes and, in my opinion ofc, the depth on the Sony looked way nicer. In the rest of the shots it was also pretty easy to tell apart because the iPhone over sharp everything. But that's just details, overall they do look very similar and, like you said, for this type of shots and for social media you pretty much just need the phone. Great video dude.

1) this proves the importance of skill of the photographer over the tools (and you do have excellent photography skills)
2) these photos were well chosen to demonstrate similarities, but point the iPhone at a human face and the difference will be apparent (this is why I always spot those Apple keynote videos, where they tell you "by the way, we shot this on an iPhone" to get the WOWs and I am like "yes, I knew that already...")

(I am speaking from experience, I have been shooting with both iPhones and DSLR and mirrorless cameras for more than a decade and it is really hard to make the iPhone cameras/tiny sensors/software to get a decent natural skintone, dynamic resolution, depth and sub surface light scattering - yet I remain hopeful, that they might learn to fake that soon :)

This is maybe my 10th “iPhone 11 pro vs DSLR “ video and while I’m guessing slightly better which is which its only because I know to look for some particulars in the photos. I was dead set on getting an A6400 this week but now, I’m not so sure... great video, thanks for convincing me to not buy a mirrorless.

If you wanna take instagram photos yes, you can use any of them. If you want to do some serious photography, try and sell iphone photos lmao. The easy answer lies in watching this or checking the photos on a big screen

I own an Iphone 11 pro max but wanted to buy the A7II to make better portrait pictures. The difference is not big enough as I can see so its totaly not worth it. The A7II is not even capable to make 4K pictures wtf? The only problem with the Iphone I have is when its too dark and no sunlight. the pictures get grainy.

The bigger question is, how do they look once the images and videos are transfered to a bigger screen?

No depth of field makes the iPhone amateurish, although like yourself I have used iPhone for all my vids

I think the phone is actually showing more detail in some scenarios (I noticed it most on the car shot) and I was shocked that the Beam was so blown out with the camera but the depth of field is just far superior with the Sony. iPhone is a good alternative but after watching this, it makes me realise that a camera is definitely the way to go. Great vid as always mate.

Just discovered your channel and watched a couple of vids. You earned a sub... I Personally film all of my videos with a Oneplus 6t, and I am fine with the video quality. I Personally think that the sound is more important in this kind of informative content. And of course the information it self.

I could tell on most of them bu they are very close and 95% of people won't notice a difference. Phone pictures are just over sharpened and lack depth of field, when the Iphone did it's software thing to add background blur it looked good but didn't blur the foreground like the A7II did. Also in low light the A7ii will be way better and cropping in no doubt there will be a big difference.

Are these shots straight out of camera?

Also, the Sony would be superior if printing images

I just discovered your channel as I'm looking at videos with the intention of buying a Tesla, and watched your 6-month review; it was great, so thank you. This video was great too, did you edit any of these pictures with either camera? Happily subbed
