Impressive.. but for me it is not enough to have one working focal length. And if so i would prefer 35mm over 24mm. Very few of the iphone pictures were in any way pleasing to my eye. They also are way to "oversharpened". The last years i thought i could live with a smartphone acompanying my full frame camera.. but i just ordered me a used compact camera for that matter.

I have ten modern cameras from full frame 47MP to 20MP M4/3 to my latest iPhone 15 Pro Max. To be honest I’ve been amazed by the capability of this latest but one iPhone’s cameras and the step up from my previous iPhone8 is a very big one. It often beats the picture quality I get out of the camera using most of my cameras and lenses. Where it falls down is in the handling and shear pleasure of using a quality dedicated camera and for telephoto. Low light is better on the iPhone than even my Leica Q2 and not far off the Sony A7III, bettering the already excellent by historic standards set by the 20MP M4/3 cameras. The auto dynamic range of the iPhone is just as impressive, as seen in the video, although many other cameras can have auto dynamic range set or indeed tone curves or multi shot HDR, all of which require user setting to taste.

Fun comparison. But I'll stick with my Sony A6400 and a nice prime lens 😀

The iPhone looks very good and can keep up fairly well. The Sony is of course a great camera and no smartphone will be able to top it. However, I don't think the macro comparison is entirely fair. The Sony with a 90 mm tele-macro lens against the iPhone's wide angle. The bokeh of the 90mm alone outclasses the iPhone in its macro capabilities. Nevertheless, the iPhone's sharpness in macros is impressive. But your test is great 👍

The oversharpening of the iPhone looks terrible, so artificial.

Thanks for another fun comparison. Are the Sony images Raw or jpeg? JPEG would show the Sony software processing vs Apple, but still not the HDR/stacking. The Apple 48 megapixel claim is a bit of Apple marketing too - but not sure it matters, the proof is in the results and how one likes them. Thanks again!

Use 48MP ProRAW + Lossless JPG-XL on the main lens to get better results to compare.
