Adopt-A-Beach : Week 11

Did you know that a trace of iron mixed with silica sand (the main ingredient in glass) will turn it a green colour? It's a no-brainer to dispose of any glass bottles or jars in the sea, as the jagged and dangerous shards found on our beaches attests. Encourage others to take their empties home to recycle.

That silvery “layer” inside potato chip bags is composed of a very thin coating of aluminium that is deposited onto a plastic food packaging film. And remember, aluminium foil takes up to 20 years to break down in the sea.
