Should I get another betta fish for my 5-gallon office tank? It’s been sitting pretty empty for a while, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to do a little window shopping. Let’s go check out the best of the best I can find at my local Petco pet stores.

It's quite weird to see them in their tiny jars. Here in Switzerland, this would be unthinkable - and that's pretty awesome.
Pet shops are required to home their stock in show aquariums, have enrichment for them and most shops do house them in fully planted tanks. While they are not required to give them an appropriately sized tank (the minimum tank size for a beta would be 54 litres), but honestly they're never in a tank smaller than 10 gallons.

my first fish was a galaxy koi betta from petco! I've had him for about 8 months now, he started out mostly red, light blue, dark blue and some black specks, and he keeps morphing - mostly blue now with some of the red showing through. It's exciting to see new patches of color pop up.

Female Betta fish are all I’ve kept! They are fantastic, especially in a community tank with other fish! They are much more social and actually tend to enjoy schooling and playing with my neon tetras and hanging out/napping with my corydoras!

I had a dragon scale plakat in the past. He developed "diamond eye" on one eye and then the other, so he ended up completely blind. I found ways for him to find his food and never moved anything in his tank. I also currently have a betta that is nearly identical to the number 8 one you showed.

My favorite Betta, and most long living, has been the $3.99 blue or red solid Betta.

I have a “copper” betta who ended up more of a silvery platinum color that I bought from Petco ~18 months ago. For the most part he’s been very happy and healthy in his community tank over that time.

I would definitely pick the White Rose Petal Male. Also, I have kept many bettas before and have always struggled keeping their fins from splitting up until I started using Vita-Chem. It is a fish supplement that you are suppose to add to your food before you feed however, I just had a couple drops in the tank every other time I feed and, thankfully, the two bettas that I have currently, still have no splits. Give it a try and see what happens.

I really like the second fish you showed, the white one. I loved the butterfly betta, but like you said, only if the white remained over time.

The moment I see a purple and yellow crown tail at a local Petco would be the moment I had a new tank to I'd also love to share my experiences building my sorrority with you. The multitude of different personalities that Bettas can have is the most rewarding part of the hard work

my favorite bettas are still solid red crowntails. i love how bright they look in a heavily green planted tank. compared to my fancier colors, they seem to live longer and have healthier lives.

Honestly the ones who are less active tend to catch my eye more, its amazing watching them become active, more colorful and happy. <3

At my petco location I’m the aquatic specialist and I’m in charge of everything well, aquatic. My favorite has to be either the Koi or Galaxy Koi bettas, both because of their unique and beautiful colors and because they are short finned bettas which I always explain that they have a better time swimming. I’ve got to say in most locations I’ve been to they get pretty forgotten about and it’s sad because of how little space they get and then there’s the customers who don’t want to put them in anything bigger than a 5 gallon tank. I do my best and always try to pursue them into getting a 10 WITH a filter/heater. Although I have no problem explaining what fish need I still get annoyed on how little people do research and either solely rely on employees for all the info(which mostly don’t know at all), or don’t care about the proper care

Ever since I got my female betta, I've been wanting to get another female betta, but I'm resisting the urge (not enough room). That elephant ear betta looked so cute though!

Hello! Awesome video!! I've kept multiple dragon scales and none of them have gone blind so far, fingers crossed. I find for dragons you want to find one that doesn't have a "full mask" cause that will increase the chances the crystals can grow over the eyes. As for rose tails my boyfriend has one and he's super weighed down by his massive fins. He has ended up nipping his beautiful fins id assume to get rid of that weight, so definitely something to consider! Good luck on your fish journey <3

This Saturday I’m going to be picking up my first exotic fish, my favourite, a betta! He’s a dragon scale red plakat and I named him “Kansai” after one of my favourite David Bowie photo shoots called “Kansai Bowie”. He immediately caught my eye with a pale white body and only red rings, he also has the most adorable stoic/grumpy face. I’ve never heard of their scales growing over their eyes but I’ll definitely do some research into it! Enjoy your bettas everyone ❤

My plakats all came in speckled, but as they matured turned into solid colors. I love plakats! They swim so freely without the large tail to drag them down.

Thankfully my local Petco and PetSmart are both fantastic. Their bettas are always really healthy with nice clean water. I'm fortunate.
