Normal sudoku rules apply. A clue outside the grid shows the total of the X number of cells, starting on the OPPOSITE side of the grid, where X is the first cell next to the clue. Cages show their totals.

Thanks Mark. This one was indeed slightly more approachable than the first. Maybe some day I'll come up with a variant that will stump you! :) Honored as always, to be featured on the channel, and thanks to you and Simon once again for helping to bring this wonderful community together.

Mark's mental gymanstics on R2C1 made me chuckle when the cell sees the 5 and the 46 pair.

Looks like mark had a blast making the thumbnail

36 can't be 8 cells as 36+8 isn't the secret

Got it in 16:17; I honestly didn't think I'd make it through this puzzle, but I'm glad I did! Really interesting variant.

Some very elegant early steps to this puzzle from row 5 onwards (which Mark didn't use).

Another way to look at row 5 is to see that the underlap between the two clues is 11 _and that the underlap must include some or all of the 11 cage_ ... and then you know that the underlap must be *exactly* the 11 cage, which fixes the X digits at either end.

Mark: And for my first trick, I'll do some voodoo and fill in the entire center line. O_O'

I liked that. Just in that sweet spot of being harder than GAS but within my abilities. I did a slightly different solve making more use of the "what's at this end" of the big numbers with some more pencil marks: not quite as elegant but got me there.

Where has Inspiring Sand gone. Those timestamps were invaluable.

19:17, I'm SHOCKED I was able to solve this at all, much less this fast, after how big of a hole I dug last time I tried one of these.

15:38 for me. I think I liked this rule a little more than the normal X-sum rule.
