*** TODAY'S PUZZLE ***
An exceptional idea and execution tonight from Belamis in the form of their puzzle Smallest Chaotic Killer. The idea is that the smallest digit in a cage indicates how many regions enter that cage and it works phenomenally! Definitely a sudoku that will bring you a lot of joy - give it a try if you can.

Play the puzzle at the link below:

Rules:
Digits do not repeat in cages, and sum to the small clue in the top left corner of the cage. Divide the grid into regions, each consisting of nine orthogonally connected cells. Each row, column and region contains the digits 1-9 once each. The smallest digit in each cage counts the number of different regions that enter that cage.

Hello Simon! Greetings from Germany. I discovered your channel only a week ago and now I am an absolute addict. Playing sudoku on my tablet is always a pleasure but knowing that there can be more rules or restrictions makes it even more entertaining to me. I also like crossword puzzles and the Zeitmagazin has a similar weekly puzzle I like to solve. I would love to be able to solve those specially english crossword puzzles, but I simply can’t. But I can understand your explanations. And I can make chocolate birthdaycakes because I am an 62 year old lady from Germany. Have a nice week. Doris

Hey, Belamis here. I started watching CTC videos around 4-5 years ago, so quite the honour to get featured - Thank you for getting me into variant sudoku.
I have always enjoyed Chaos Construction puzzles, and this puzzle turned out better than expected.
PS: Generally I prefer the pronounciation of Bell-Amiss, but I also enjoy the various pronounciations that others come up with (My fault for using an ambiguous name).

Simon makes a subtle error at 14:21. R5c2 is indigo because if indigo is its own color, it has to get out. When he concludes indigo is really green, though, that logic no longer applies and all he really knows is that r5c2 or 56c2 is green — but he doesn’t fix the coloring. More complicated reasoning involving the 11-cage containing a two would tell him he got it right, but he didn’t think that, he just got lucky.

The unbridled joy Simon displays as he is solving puzzles, is fun to watch. Its clear he loves doing these solves!

My favorite part of any of these videos is when Simon is apologizing for not knowing where to go next, but it is only because he is focusing on the crazy rules and not just Sudoku. The amount of times ill be watching one of these and he is struggling over somewhere and I'm like "there is a naked single in box 1" over and over again while he tries more and more complex theories. Sometimes the naked single does not really help move the solve forward in any meaningful way, but i know when i am doing one those small wins make the struggle easier to deal with.

This puzzle tickled my fancy. One of the most fun and memorable puzzles in recent history. The logic is just lovely.

I honestly thought I was going to need help from Simon's solve after I got stuck for a bit and started to watch his solve, only to realize something I'd not thought through... and finished on my own in 37:15 (conflict checker off). Many thanks to Belamis for an amazing puzzle, loved it!

I finished in 61:24 minutes. I love puzzles like these that have a little twist on standard rulesets, especially in deconstruction puzzles. There is something so satisfying of discovering the path of a new ruleset. I really liked the limitation of the lower digits had on this puzzle. I think my favorite part was the 25 cage and realizing that 9 couldn't exist in it, which forced a 4 as the lowest number. Figuring out that r9c1 had to belong to the same color as that in the 11 cage above it and that r9c2 had to belong to the 13 cage to the right was an amazing step to calculate. The rest of the coloring was practically forced and ended with a cool trick in the bottom right using the 10 cages that forced an orientation. The Sudoku was an easy finish once I noticed that 2 and 8 both belonged in the T 19 cage in the center. This was a fun ruleset to explore and the pathway felt very clean to get through. Great Puzzle!

Loved it! Particularly watching the red three ricket! I had to fix about six of my own before I got to watch your solve Simon.

That was brilliant; took me a smidgeon under an hour but I enjoyed every second of it.

so fun doing the puzzle and then watching Simon's mind at work.

It's absolutely gorgeous how you draw in all the borders, including the frame for the puzzle, to provide assistance to people with OCD and still uses 9 colours and one repeat rather than 10 different colours or two sets of five 😅

I enjoyed the fact that Simon started at the bottom left and top right corners but the region completed first was at the bottom right. This puzzle had a really interesting back and forth flow.

The "distressing pencilmark" at 45:36 kind of was the ignition to unravelling all the rest of the puzzle. We can almost hear Mark giggling in the background. ;-)
