Please be careful!! I have been an autism mom for 2 decades and I know the researchers personally who developed this therapy and THEY do not feel that there is enough safety data to recommend TMS across the board for use in the general autism population, especially children. Why?? Epilepsy!!! The most recent data says that at least 35% of people on the spectrum have epilepsy (grand mal or one of the several versions of focal seizures-check the DSM) Many parents have no idea that focal seizures are present in their chid because most autistic children have never had a 24 hour EEG. These seizures call look like eye blinking, ADD, daydreaming, a wandering eye, falling then quickly getting up, occasional incontinence...and more. Many children on the spectrum do not have access to a developmental pediatrician ( they DON"T take insurance!) who are expert in spotting these seizures and can show parents what to look for. Where the high risk of TMS for your child lies is the puberty epilepsy/autism bump when many of kids with autism graduate to sudden life threatening grand mal seizures. These episodes are deadly often lasting longer than 5 minutes, and whoever is with them must insert medicated suppository on the spot before death These are called SUDEP.-Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy. It is what killed John Travolta's autistic son AND is the leading non accidental cause of death in young adults with autism. So back to my warning. The only listed side effect of TMS is seizures! AND the data for that side effect was based on neurotypical populations. There has been zero papers published on the number of TMS triggered seizures in the autistic population. If your child has Level 2 or 3 autism and is non, or minimally verbal and you want to try this therapy PLEASE enroll your child in a University based research study and don't go to a freestanding care center that had been using TMS for depression, PTSD or addiction. We all want this therapy to be declared safe of those on the autism spectrum but not at the expense of shortening our child's life expectancy. Four of the kids in my young adult's autistic peer group who went to classes with him have developed these grand mal seizures. It is well documented that TMS can trigger seizures in human beings and our kids might just be at greater risk for a bad outcome, resulting in their managing medication-resistant deadly epilepsy.

Not being able to sit still, running around. That sounds more like ADHD than autism.
