I was in the original US Dexcom trials and later in the original Medtronic CGM trials. Dexcom really won me over with how simple it is and it provided more accurate blood glucose levels. Medtronic really had the market on durable insulin pumps. I used a Tandem briefly in 2017, and when it stopped working once while shoveling snow and then completely died 6 months later, even though I was issued a replacement I didn’t trust it - additionally I hated the reservoir and syringe set up, so I went back to my previous Medtronic pump. That one lived a few years longer and then died when I drove for 8 hours in the summer with a car that had no air conditioning. It happened to be at the end of my 4 year warranty for the Tandem. So, I got a Medtronic 780g. The instructions for the CGM were so confusing, I never used it and got a prescription for Dexcom. Thank you for reviewing this new CGM. After all these years, whey does Medtronic insist upon reinventing the wheel - that Dexcom already perfected?

Hey everyone! I’ve been recently diagnosed with diabetes type 1 and finding this channel is a life saver. I didn’t know so many were experiencing this disease and to find a community makes me feel a lot more comfortable. Thanks so much. You just earned a sub

I’m putting this same msg on more than one channel because I have reason to believe that a certain video hosting organization is concealing comments from some of my channels from other viewers:

Brian, your thoughts either very closely or exactly mirror my own but you have a unique and very concise way of putting it all together and articulating it that makes it seem obvious—-keep up the fight!!!

This is genuinely exciting news - the more cgms on the market, the better. Though the 7 days lifetime is a shame for this one so far compared to the other systems available. The smart pen is a novel idea and I do hope it gets picked up by other manufacturers, too - as someone on MDI who doesn't want to use a pump, it'd be cool to see more such devices. It'd be interesting to see how this CGM continues to develop. I myself got a sibionics recently after watching your video and it's honestly made me wonder how I managed to live for 8 years with manual testing. So yay for cgms in all shapes and sizes!

Thanks so much! I’m using the Medtronic 780g with their clunky sensor and loving the closed loop. I have the InPen but gave it up for the brick. I’m from Minnesota, home of Medtronic, and have sent sternly worded messages about their RIDICULOUS app, which is an embarrassment to all midwesterners. Hoping this is a glimpse of them coming full into the future. ❤

Interesting, seems no matter what CGM Medtronic has on the market some of them randomly fail after a short 3-4 days. Hopefully that can be resolved at some point. I am using the 780g pump so having closed loop is a life saver for me.

Interesting! My family aren’t keen on insulin pumps and still used pens. This could be a game changer.

I know people are a bit sad about the 7 day period but as I'm pretty allergic to adhesives and can't wear the free style libre for more than 7 days (once I managed 10 days by using super glue... Not recommended) before my blisters/rashes burst and the puss forces the sensor off, I kinda like the shorter time period

The crappiness of the CGM sensors was one of the main reasons I switched from Medtronic insulin pumps to Tandem with the Dexcom (G6) CGM. Not only was the Minimed sensors complicated to insert and secure, but also, I got horrible readings from them. I'm curious about the smart pen. When I was on MDI, I used both long lasting insulin and fast. How does the pen track both, or does it just track the fast?

Whenever you get the chance, could you please do a video on the new Dexcom One+ Sensor? I think that it would be great to know more about this CGM.

For a 780g user, it’s a big improvement. But as for the competitors, its seems behind.

Hi Patreon
i really like your videos and posts, because they correspond exactly to my experiences.
I have had td1 since 1990 and am familiar with most insulin pumps and cgm systems. In addition to other diseases i have a severe gastroparesis (the food often takes effect first 30min -1 h. if i am low and up to 4 - 8 h after having eaten FPE).
I wore medtronic 640g for 6 years (+ enlite 2 + 3) and 3 years with dexcom g6, then ypsopump + tslim x2 for several months. I recognized that unfortunately my insulin requirement is too big for patch pumps. Since autumn 2023 i am currently wearing the minimed 780g and i luckily have still some supplies of dexcom G6 sensors in parallel to compare. Up to now Medtronic replaced me 8 units of Guardian 4 because of faulty sensors (measurement deviations up to 6mmol) I think the minimed insulin pumps are really perfect for me and as good as the accu chek Combo pump and (I love both besause ot the haptic feel) But the medtronic sensors are absolutely in need of improvement ( i got often so angry and wanted to throw the crappy things in the garbage (by the way i think Medtronic is the world champion in overpacking unnecessary items). Of course I will give this new simplera sensor the chance to change my opinion positively, but up to now i am somehow pessimistic. If that doesn't help either then i'll join to the loopercommunity and will learn all about xdrip and aaps.

Currently using the guardian 4 and it’s malfunctioning like nobody’s business - I had five (5) sensors die on me and Medtronic already warrantied the transmitter after five months of use. Medtronic is super helpful but that kind of failure rate is unacceptable.

The smartguard and 780G are perfect but I hope the Instinct version of this new sensor will be better than their current one 🤞

So it offeres nothing new and is larger and doesnt last as long as any other one. Seems like they are still far behind no real point in going with them. Aside from the pen

Have you ever tried Cascade CGM system? it's by a company called waveform, it's CE approved but not available in the USA for some reason, the sensor is rechargeable for up to a year

Thank you a lot for your video’s. They have been helping me a lot since my T1D diagnosis 8 weeks ago. Currently put on the Libre and MDI, not ready yet to get a pump. I would be interested in your experience and opinion of using the Simplera and the InPen combined.

I’d like more info about the Simplera and In Pen, especially the pen does not go through Medicare RX insurance but regular Medicare along with the CGM
