I once knew a chaplain who was a Vietnam veteran. He said after the war i turned to god for the hell i brought upon my enemies. For someone had to forgive their damned souls. It was the coldest line ive ever heard from him before he passed

Our chaplain had a fucking huge fruitsalad ribbonstack. He was the coolest mfr ever.

Edit: Thank you for your likes and comments! it really brought back the good old memories. I will never forget the calmness and peace of our chappys voice and persona. I would come from outside the hesco barriers all shook up as a greenhorn, nearly shitting my pants and definetly pissed in my undies, as soon as chappy came and as soon as i heard "son, lets take a walk and talk if you like, it felt like a bag of rocks was lifted of my shoulders and this tightness in my upper belly and my anxiousness which i felt in my chest and upper belly went away after a few minutes of just talking and walking with chappy. They deserve our upmost respect. I was really upset how they treated the chappy im generation kill after all those years when i watched it. It felt personal.

My favorite Parish Priest ever was a WWII Marine.

my dads chaplain on his rotation to haiti in 94 was a previous infantryman with 3 purple hearts, CIB and a bronze star 😭

Man, I remember my chaps on deployment. Man would join us in the forecastle for sea & anchor, and would help us out with the lines. Man was in Marines, swapped to Navy, and then Munstang'd into an Lieutenant Commander. Every time we tried to stop him from even getting close (major health hazards at every step in the process), and his excuse would always be "I can't just sit in my office while my brothers are hard at work!". I was a supervising position during some of them, and it's weird having to give orders to someone on the clear other side of the rank spectrum, yet he would always roll his sleeves up and yell with the rest of the guys. 1000/10, would work with him again if I had the chance.

Chappy at FT Benning was an “ex” ranger and he SEEN SOME SHIT. But god bless his soul he was the sweetest man.

🤣🤣 I was ex infantry who became a religious affairs specialist in the Army. My first chaplain was prior infantry NCO as well. We were a very unusual UMT. Full of anger, PTSD and the willingness to serve god and soliders.

I work for the Office of the Chief of Chaplains as a contractor organizing events for Chaplains to help their units. Some chaplains really are cool as hell.
