Thanks for this, I was looking for a video that specifically addressed this feature and this is the only one I found. Again, it’s unlikely to ever be used but it’s good to know it works if needed.

It's funny seeing all these comments
I Owen a 2017 CX5 AWD and would highly recommend it ... I live in BC and have took this off road numerous times recently I took it over 4 dry river beds with steep inclines in and out of them and it performed very well also up a Gravel Hill with 25% incline and did amazing ... you got to know what your vehicle can do and what you can get out of it ... and remember it's an AWD System it not 4wd or 4x4 lock

I'm buying this mostly for the weather conditions here up north. Sometimes I take it on some back roads in the mountains and I feel extremely safe. I wasn't to comfortable with my rwd car before.

Seems it works much better with traction control off.

Did very well for such a pristine and elegant midsize SUV lol. Who would’ve thought? It’s like seeing Gwyneth Paltrow going rock climbing

I think the awd mechanicals are just as important as the computer programming. The awd has to do all the heavy lifting, and some just can't do it for an extended period of time without overheating.

Now you can get over that gnarly diagonal at Walmart parking lot. 😂

I am glad that I chose the snowflake white color for my 2018 cx5 GT

At 5:15 we can hear and see the brake engage on the passenger side rear, and the car rolls backwards, than when the TCS is off. So TCS on is traction control, TCS off is max traction.

Having a license plate that starts with "FLY" is a nice touch to the video.

Am I the only thinking, "Wow it made it" And did so without applying the brake to transfer force to the wheel with traction. That and its the best looking, best handling car in it's class. AND it's naturally aspirated, and doesn't have a shitty cvt. I'm in. And you keyboard warriors wouldn't be caught dead putting your grocery getter on just two wheels. If you're seriously in need of a car that is driven more than once in its life on two wheels, a crossover isn't for you.

It's a grocery getter that can make it to the store in the snow. That's all it was designed to do. It wasn't designed to be a seesaw. But... It still made it.

I'm amazed how many viewers claim they love the way CQ pushes the cars, or they respect his (IMHO unique and extreme) tests - but then DISAGREE with his CONCLUSIONS that the AWD is decent and will be great for most R/W situations.

Also with STOCK TIRES apparently almost all cars in this category are underwhelming. And before you tell me about Subaru - it comes with better tires right?

At 7:27 we can hear and see the brake engage on the passenger side rear wheel that is off the ground thus sending more power to the wheel that is on the ground, which has a little less grip than the braked wheel lifted off the ground. That is with TCS off.

So at least the CRV doesn't have the worst AWD in its class ). But I have to admit, the CX-5 is a better car overall. Much better interior, also the better ride. The 2.2 diesel we get in europe is also a very good engine - a lot of torque, and the 6 speed auto copes well with it.

nobody will buy a CX5 to do offroad, you buy a jeep for that, a CX5 is a beautiful, stylish very agile CUV not an off -roader. I love mine

I ended up purchasing the CX5 Grand Touring AWD (instead of the Crosstrek) because the interior was vastly superior to the Crosstrek Limited. I understand that the Subaru is better at AWD, but I was wondering... how much of a difference, if any, do the 19 inch wheels and the fairly low-rated OEM Toyo tires make in regards to a diagonal test? For example, if you swapped to 17 inch wheels and a tire that's more soft-roadish like Defender LTX, would the AWD capabilities of the CX5 improve?

well might be a bit slow but the awd system still does it's job, so not bad, hyundai's awd or sportage's are IMO worse than that

Still looking forward to seeing the CX9 AWD tests from you guys .
Not sure how much Mazda AWD system has improved as CX5 does.

Well I see no diffrence beetween TCS ON or OFF. TCS should apply breaks to the wheels with less traction, so wheels with more traction can spin. Looks like Mazda has some more programing of TCS to do. I wonder who makes TCS for Mazda? Ford propably or a firm derived from Ford?

I still think that in the recent AWD tests the Subaru Forester performed the best. The Ford Escape 2nd.
