I love the moral of this movies. It doesn't matter what you are, where you come from, or how you were born. What matters is what you do. The choices you make. Choices like these.

What is so deeply, personally important to me about this scene is how much it truly encapsulates the almost manic need for some people to be true to themselves at the expense of all else. That is a trite statement so many times, built on selfishness and vanity… but here it is not. Not even close.

Because no one really understands what he’s threatened by here. He’s not threatened by the stocks, the public humiliation, the consequences from his enemies. He couldn’t care less about those; they barely even register. What he is threatened by, what SCARES him, is the idea of having to do what he’s going to do alone.

He LOVES these people. They are his FAMILY. They have had his back and he theirs time and time again. He WANTS to do this together.

But, because they love him, they say no… one by one. And for each one, each time, he LOOKS at them. Looks FOR them. He needs his family desperately to stand with him in this moment. But they can’t.

So he has to break with them. ALL OF THEM. He HAS TO. He doesn’t want to; he wants nothing less. But he just can’t.

He CANNOT run, no matter the consequences, no matter what it costs him, no matter if he has to do it alone.

He can’t run.

He is a knight.

And then… they reward his faith by standing with him anyway, without their support. They get it. They get him. By realizing he had to be alone in all this, willing to take the consequences ON ALL SIDES for doing so, those on his side stayed that way, come what may.

“Your men love you. If I knew nothing else about you, that would be enough. But you also tilt, when you should withdraw… and that is knightly too.”

Community through individuality. True connections through being uncompromising…

Sounds a lot like Heaven to me.

“He knowingly endangers himself” .. he said that earlier in the film, lives by it and doesn’t run from the consequences of it. Absolute Top Dog and Knight.

This scene made this movie for me, when Wat says, "William, today we are" it gives me chills.

What makes this film incredible and stand the test of time is the amazing cast of actors, they really elevated the film to more than just a comedic bit and complemented each other really well on-screen.

The beauty in this is the purity of Will's and Ledger's desire to be pure and withstand, so knightly so true <3. Reality is somewhat so much more daring, for the persistence and completeness required to accept your choices and be happy with yourself.

I love the whole film, but when she says "Yes, William, with the pigs, " I always smile at the way she says it.

Thanks for posting this scene! 

For me, it almost beats William's reuniting with his father for the movie's most heartwarming scene.  Even though he rejects their pleas to run, it's touching to see how much his friends care for him (especially Geoff and Kate, who haven't known him very long).  When Chaucer tearfully says, "With all the pieces of my heart", you know how far William has come, and what an impact he's had on the lives of those closest & dearest to him.

I feel this is the moment William became a Knight. If he fled he would not have only Tarbished his name but his friends efforts as well. They could not take his belief from him. He showed strength in the tournaments, courage outside of them, and honor with his friends. A true Knight

I know to some, some scenes are cheezy, but I think those what makes this movie heartwarming and gives life lessons, such an underrated movie
