My family went to New York for a vacation and my mom said to a New Yorker, “I love your accent!”
And the guy goes *in the most dramatic New York accent ever* “I’m from New York. You have the accent”

My husband and I are native Texans. Whenever we visit New York, we can feel ourselves talking too slow and drawn out for New Yorkers. It’s a funny experience.

1:15 - like that gentleman I am also Puerto Rican, grew up in Brooklyn, and had many Italian _compays_ (a compay is a Spanish-Puerto Rican term for compadre or good friend). Over the years people thought I was Italian because of the way I spoke. Decades later am now age 70, live in the Midwest, and people still mistake me for an Italian from Brooklyn. Despite living here for many decades I never lost my old East New York Italianate type accent. However, I don't laugh like a goat. 😂
Sad to see these old accents disappearing but that's the way it goes ...

Everyone in the world has an accent. Speaking without an accent is not physically possible because words change depending on how the language formed in that area--and none of them sound like they did 1000 or even a 100 years ago. It's always changing, and that goes for other languages, too. England, Japan, China, Sweden, Germany--all of them. Everyone has an accent.

"No it's not an accent. It's just how we speak"

"No that's not water, that's just some H2O"

"No, we're not fighting. We're just throwing punches at each other until one of us yields or is unconscious"

I love all the NY accents (regardless of race or social class), they are so flavorful and rhythmic, you can tell the people there have a big heart, attitude to match and love life. Greetings from México.

I’m a Bronx native and just discovered I have an accent lol. I heard myself say “cawfee” one day and covered my mouth in awe like oh my gosh I actually talk like that?? I was astonished.

And yes, that woman had such a thick Brooklyn accent. They speak a whole nother language down there. It’s a different planet.

I didn't even notice I have a NY accent til I moved to Texas. Texans pointed out I pronounce coffee as "Cahwfee" rather than "Koffee". I still pronounce it like that today. Once a New Yorker always a New Yorker, I tell you

I’m from Melbourne Australia and I *love* the different NY accents. Being an outsider, I can definitely hear the different accents between people and also from Irish and Italian and African American etc.

I saw this ad on the subway in NYC. As I sat among fellow NYers it wrote "They said NYC is the capital of people with aptitude" next line in small letters wrote "You have a problem with that"
I LOVE NEW YORK
