You’re thinking about starting photography, maybe you’ve always been interested but never pulled the plug and bought a camera yourself? Where do we even start?
There are so many great cameras at various different price points it’s hard to know what you should buy. As a photographer for the last 10 years of my life I thought I could maybe help you out and point you in the right direction with some cameras I would recommend.
Everything I mention in this video will be from personal experience with the cameras or I know close friends who have used them. There so many great options in the camera world I won’t able to touch on every make, model and brand so I’ll just suggest some cameras like I would when talking to a family member or friend.
The cameras I talk about here are not simple point and shoot cameras. They will include manual and advanced features for people who are little more serious about talking photos more than just on a family holiday.
I personally think that if you want to just point and shoot, you don’t care about learning the details and camera settings your mobile phone is probably good enough. But for those who want more of a photography experience I will be sharing my recommendations that are little more than just a one button point and shoot option.
Something to keep in mind is that cameras should generally last you a long time. Upgrading and changing gear can cost a lot of money so I like to suggest when you buy a camera, think about it as a 3-5 year investment at least. When you buy a good camera body you can then look at adding different lenses that fit that camera body. If you keep changing camera bodies you will need to change the lenses to fit that body. So keep in mind, when buying a brand you’re also buying into the lenses that will fit the camera too. However, there are so many options and third party companies and lens adapters nowadays this isn’t something you should worry about, just something to keep in mind. I mainly shoot with Canon, so if I change to sony... it’ll be a faff to swap and change out all my lenses too. I’m invested in the canon eco system because I’m happy with their products. I hope this makes sense.
I’m going to recommend cameras in 3 different prices ranges. £500 and less, Between £500-1000 and £1k plus. Like with most tech, you get what you pay for so the cheaper cameras will be older and provide much fewer fancy features compared to the pricers cameras but everything I recommend will still product good quality images you shouldn’t be disappointed with.
