You know, I find it hard to take seriously the World’s 50 Best list. Most of the voters are anonymous…except for some of the published “chairs” on the website who can announce themselves to the restaurants before dining. And they have to have dined at the restaurant at least eighteen months before the list is published…yet there is no requirement on how much they go to verify their status. And how many people have dined at each restaurant? Or is it only a few? Look, either it is or it isn’t anonymous, and eighteen months is more than enough time for a restaurant to completely change its direction. Also, come on now. I haven’t been to Extebarri, but I have seen many different reviews, and the food does look nice. Rustic, simple, but not innovative in any way. To call it the #2 restaurant in the world and place it above, say, Arpege, is like giving a taco restaurant a Michelin Star (which just happened in the newest Mexican Guide).
