LOLITA (1997) HD TRAILER

Adrian Lyne's 1997 adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s infamous novel stars Jeremy Irons, Dominique Swain & Melanie Griffith.

The film was met with much controversy in Australia, not given a theatrical release until 1999. The New York Times awarded the film a 'Critic's Pick', declaring it "rich beyond what anyone could have expected, the film repays repeated viewings... it turns Humbert's madness into art."

Respectable schoolteacher Humbert Hubert (Jeremy Irons) marries his landlady Charlotte Haze (Melanie Griffith) so that he can get closer to her young daughter Lolita (Dominique Swain), with whom he is madly in love. His unfulfilled desire for the girl brings him to the edge of insanity and threatens to destroy the object of his obsession.

They managed to take parts directly from the book (very good), but they somehow still miss the point. He was not in love with her. They try to put him in a better light than he really was in the book.

In the eyes of a matured female, Lolita is just a child. It is so risky for an adolescent girl without the help of a mom to survive in the world. There are so many traps. For real Humbert, Lolita is just a part of his huntering experience.

The author, Nabokov has pointed out several times over the years much of the novel had roots in decades and centuries in the past. A noted transition of moral values from centuries ago into the modern world, which was the early 1900s in his reference. He noted how Americans in the late 1800s and early 1900s and then long before then, typically had 40 year old men marrying 13, 14 and 15 year old girls. The life span of women before these dates was extremely short.

Up until the 1970s, 80s and 90s in many US states, girls as young as 13 could still get married with parental consent, and did regularly. During the civil war in the South, girls of 10 and 11 years old got married commonly while 13, 14 and 15 was common throughout the country, Europe and around the world.

The author makes note of this morality change going into the 21st century. So don't put yourself on a pedestal just yet. The likelihood of your great, great, great grandparents engaging in these practices is extremely high between the ages of 12 and 17.

I don't judge past generations, but am glad things have evolved a bit. Think we're all better for it.

Don’t you just hate it when Dusty wicked potential stepfathers exploit single mothers daughters! It’s very important to interpret correctly, a very visually stunning film, which tackles a very real and soul crushing topic.

I've read the whole book. It's so hard to find, I just borrowed it from my friend's grandfather since we both loved reading books. I wanna watch the movie version to see if there are scenarios that's been changed from the book novel

I hope people understand that Nabokov wrote a crime novel. And how sinister it is to perverse your self centered carnal lust to paternal/partner protective feelings.

Two covers that i love with this novel was the
> japanese cover (dead butterflies or stack of butterflies in white cover ) it truly depicts dolores feelings and not the pedophiles train wrack story telling
.
>50th aniv cover (just lips on the side no eyes no make up ) truly showing how naive and yound was dolores yet you can see how melancholy her face

I had to downvote this because otherwise YT would fill my feed with, well that. My apologies, but I was under the impression this was a review.

It is a romance from the perspective we see the film. I guess you can call it a fantasy romance, cause the reality is mucb different

The whole point of the book explorations of writings of “unreliable narrator”. The reader was tasked with the challenge of reading in-between the lines of unreliable narrator’s statements. Seems like the movie is missing the entire point and purpose of the book.

A very lackluster movie overall, not worth the hype. Just see _Lolita_ from 1962 directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring James Mason, and you'll understand what a really good movie is...

Somebody told me that this movie was about the girl tormenting him, but there was never any signs of that at all. So it’s not like The Crush with Alicia Silverstone. In this movie they were both clearly sexually attracted to each other, but it still wasn’t right as it makes him a pedo. It’s sick but she clearly wanted to be with him
