Ok but read the book. The book is actually about how disgusting and dipraved the main character is Nibokov and his wife were horrified when they found that people thought it was a “love story” the point is how disgusting it is. The book is a masterpiece

Interesting comment section. Half of the people call this a masterpiece, which it is. The other half call it disgusting for the subject matter. That can only mean two things:

1. The movie is so convincingly good that some people mistake it for reality and pass judgement accordingly.
2. The same people probably are fine with watching movies about war, murder, bank robberies or other crimes that are also repulsive, yet have no problem discerning reality from fiction in these instances.

i cant believe they even remade the film in the first place, but the fact that dominique’s parents let her do this is crazy to me. she wasnt a babyfaced young adult playing a teen, she was a literal teenager doing this.

I don't know why people are catching up on this movie/book. This is indeed a masterpiece. Nabokov's most famous work. I've seen both movies and read the book, I love it. Yes, the story may be quite disgusting to some people. But you know what? It's not at all worse than what happens in a couple of today's top-list movies. No, I do not support pedophilia. But both the films are wonderfully executed. The book is the miracle itself! An artistic novel with great writing and expression. I highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to see the world more broadly. Don't always look for the harmful in everything...!

I was 10-11 when this movie came out and even then I would've been thrilled to have Jeremy Irons as boyfriend/stepdad. Screw the law. I can't stop liking older men just because it was illegal.

I'm from Turkey, I watched the movie twice, actually it has deep meaning, it's hard to understand the movie, but briefly, a father kills his wife and rapes the girl, while the girl leaves her father, when she returns, the girl is married.
