An inner monologue is more than talking to yourself "in your head". I have always loved to read books, and didn't understand why some people didn't. When I read its like I am actually watching a real movie in my head. I actually "see" the characters from their description, see them interact, "hear" the dialogue they are saying, etc. I didn't find out until a few years ago that everyone couldn't do this. I was AMAZED. To me it would be really boring to read just words and not have mental images to go with them.

My wife can’t imagine anything in her head visually. She can only think about the characteristics of the thing. While I can see in my head anything I want. If I forget how to get somewhere I can imagine myself walking or driving street by street till I remember where it is. It’s odd to me how different people are in ways you may never thought about.
