Preview of Animated Gaussian Splatting within Unreal Engine 5: This video offers an early look into our research, which is focused on delivering an efficient method for the reconstruction, compression, streaming, and playback of animated volumetric content through 4D Gaussian Splatting.

This technology demonstration utilizes data from the Panoptic Studio dataset, a massively multiview system for social interaction capture, published in 2017 in the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence.

This is NOT the typical audience, but I hope Roblox allows usage of gaussian splatting within their engine. It would be extremely efficient and remove the need for global illumination or raytracing.

What do you mean by real-time? Is it actually realtime? Like, it's not just a recorded video but a live stream that's turned into the Gaussian?

it look good, but i think only for archintecture, because it is non interactiva and everything is static. It look synthetic and non realistic.

While impressive this really feels disconnected from the environment and jarring.

It reminds me of the early days when games like Myst and Riven included video clips of actors inside their games.

A cg character in a cg environment will always feel more grounded for now until we are much further along with this tech.
