Experience combining a 3D Gaussian Splatting model from Postshot to Unreal Engine.

3D scanning of large interiors is challenging. Fortunately, the Postshot application can be used to calculate point clouds from multiple video files. Still, training a balanced Gaussian Splatting model can go overboard if there are too many frames. The model easily becomes messy and a lot of floating artifacts accumulate there. But removing and cropping different parts in Unreal is possible and combining the model with 3D elements and lighting gives new interesting possibilities to embed GSplat models. What do you think?

The haze particles and floating artifacts could be due to camera's auto-exposure and auto white-balance. When the solver tries to match the photos, it looks at the same scene, but from different angles, the scene is blue-ish and slightly brighter. Lock the AE and WB on the phone. Also, nice video.

Great content! It would be fantastic a step by step guide of this workflow for creating a 3D environment on UE5. I think that commenting on the issues and ending with the final conclusions (great things and drawbacks) after the process would be a great video.

Congratulations 🎉!

Amazing. Replacing scanned floor with a 3d pure floor is a cool trick. Why not adding cubes for columns and car collision too? You give cubes a transparent material so you make them invisible.

Anyway to export NERF models not just 3DGS? I want the model to receive shadows on the walls naturally. Which does not work with 3DGS.

Question: Could you do a short video on how to set Keys in Postshot. I struggle to do some animation in postshot and would love to do so and share my work. I would appreciate your help here.

Try bumping up the splat density and pixel res, it'll take longer but for such a large area you need a more condensed structure and possibly more frames depend on the videos length.

Also try boosting to 45-60ksteps as it just continues to refine the model more, guess the limit would be the power of your pc I'm not sure.

I currently have a large area model done by drone at 59% 4th step that's looks quite amazing.

Can this be done with 360° @ 3D, 180° @2D for stereoscopic video?

Hello, when I import the psht file into ue5, the psht file will be distorted with the change of viewing angle. Have you encountered this problem?Merry Christmas!!

Your explanations are too good and I have been following this steps from your channel and what confuses me is how you are able light it seamless but when i am trying to do what ever lighting mode it is not effecting this geometry and I need your help on that, could you?

How do you export from postshot? Is it the ply file or psht? What do you do with them? Sorry I am very inexperienced with this

How long does it take to make postshoot scene? I have like 9 minutes of footage of me recording every corner of a room and im wondering if i should start getting it done right now or late at night since im assuming i could go to bed and let the computer running, got an rtx 3060

Looks like trash. The non gaussian geometry looks far superior. But i guess it will only take months until it’s usable.
