I finally got mine working. Was having random crashes during game play anywhere from 1sec to 4min. Solution for me was nvidia control panel > 3d settings > threaded optimizations - off. In addition to that I needed to add a bunch of stuff in the compatibility tab within DxWnd "Reserve legacy memory segments, Hook GOG Libs, Fix global unlock, fix freelibrary, skip freelibrary recursion, fix load library error, fix load library altered search path, fix adjust window rect, virutal heap win95/98 compat, virtual process heap, no baadfood."
I just did a full play through of single player and did this on win11. There were some other minor issues with my dx version, using dx7 helped but switching to openGL emulation seemed to be the best. If that doesn't work try dgvoodoo. Just configure it and move the dx contents to your i82 folder, no other action is needed for that one.

Last: There was a side effect and tbh, I'm not sure if all these changes were needed so we may be able to trim these down. Side effect was even with all the correct sound settings I had no music during game play. Otherwise the game ran fairly well.

I have been trying for years to get this game to run. I still have two physical copies of the game (some where) i have yet to get this game to run on any machine. I can build a Pc, but in depth things such as this are not my strong suit. After watching your video, i have finally been able to play one of my favorite games, that i chalked up as dead. Thank you so much! you do not know what this means!

Man, I really appreciated this video, I will make some extra tips for the troubles that I faced after the video:

1 - I downloaded a GOG "old" version of Interstate 82 (1.0.0.7) (I realized because the main folder doesn't have the shortcut and the ogg libraries.dll, so make sure you download the "current version" (2.0.0.8)

2 - If the game not starts after click "New Trip", re-set all key bindings in the game (for some reason, it crashes the game)

3 - If the game starts with low fps, go to DirectX tab (in DxWnd) and change it to directx 11 (I'm using Win 10).

Now I'm going to play this little boy. :)

Edit : If Direct X 11 crashes change it to 8, 9 or 10 (1 to 6 and 7 doesn't work)

I could not get this fix to work with my original copy of I82 so I went ahead and bought the GOG version. Sure enough, following the directions in this video to a 'T' makes the GOG version of I82 playable! I did struggle with it for a while because I had set the .exe file to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP. The game would run but would freeze after a few seconds of play. Once I configured everything EXACTLY as shown in this video it worked great! Thanks Ace!

Wow, thanks, finally I can run it.
I've done an additional step though: the aspect ratio correction in DxWnd because it was stretched.

Hi Ace1928. Thanks for putting time and effort into an obscure old game! I'76 was one of the very first games I ever remember playing as a kid and have very fond memories of. I played i'76 through again a month ago and only just realised that i'82 existed. However, like many win 10 users I'm unable to play the gog release due to being broken. On stumbling onto your fix I followed every step to the letter - however sadly unlike several of your commenters I've been unable to get it to work still. The issue I have is that when I start up the app through DXWND after applying all steps, It now hangs on the main menu screen with no visible or functional "key" mouse cursor. I've gone back over the steps and have definitely done everything you mention. I've also found that if I go into DXWND and disable Windowed Mode (in Main category) I can get into the main menu of i82, edit settings etc - but when i try starting a new trip after that point it plays the intro video then ctd's after a black screen. Any ideas or suggestions to break the deadlock and be able to play the game? Thanks man :)

This fix didn't work for me with GOG version, however I tried this fix on the retail version of the game & guess what it worked. The only problem I have is the menus look pixelated & the cutscene volume is lower.

At one point I had tried to make a mod for this game to set it in the Tron universe. I was almost done till my damn hard drive crapped out.

Thanks for the video! I may have to rebuy this game. I bought it when it originally came out, but I lost my copy. This may seem silly but one of my fondest memories of the game was simply installing it. I really enjoyed the art and the audio/music during the install process. Does the GOG.com version of the game include this?
