the Wicked movie mess

I saw Wicked the other day. Here’s a review on the wicked movie, hot takes and the Wicked cast drama from the pov of someone who isn’t a theatre kid.

From 'stealing' husbands to stealing your money with excessive marketing - we’re talking about the dull color grades, Ariana and Cynthia crying a lot, is Glinda ‘good’ or ‘bad’, movie set design, Wicked being ‘woke’, casting choices and holding space for defying gravity. If none of that makes sense to you… good.

Yeah when Barbie came out lots of people thought they were heavy-handed with the messaging. But I think that's necessary for a general audience. Most people aren't as progressive as we'd like to think. For lots of people this might be the first time in a long time that they're being made to think about the issues faced by marginalized folk

My best take on glindas last decision is that could be about survival, wether that's like the interview strength in realising your best path or realising your not capable of the other path and communicating it to not suffer through it, glinda says don't be scared to elphaba because I think she is also scared but this isn't elphabas first time it's just on a bigger scale she knows she should just leave. Glinda has a chance to go back to school and live whatever plan she had for herself, she wasn't supposed to be there, I think she's hoping to go back to normal.

about glinda leaving with elphaba, to me, it looks like glinda was about to do it but she got caught by the people and she couldn’t break free from that. it’s an allegory for wanting to take a stand and being compassionate but not wanting to sacrifice what you’ve worked for and your comforts. it also shows in act 2, that she’s just an ally behind the scenes.

The Barbie marketing felt cute and matched the theme, also everyone knows Barbie and Barbie is already advertised a lot being a big toy, so a lot of marketing wasn’t too odd or out of place

The Wicked marketing just feels real forced, unless you’re big on musicals or wizard of oz, you probably don’t know Wicked very much so putting it everywhere isn’t as effective and probably puts people off if anything…

Also people calling Wicked “WOKE” is so funny like YEAH ITS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT-

11:50 Now I'm wondering if the production team also wanted to replicate the effects of using film cuz someone mentioned that they filmed digitally, which explains the constant usage of lightings/back-lighting and color grading to make the movie seem more natural and whimsical, but if you noticed from older movies (look how vibrant the original Wizard of Oz film was) using film, they actually don't loose their colors and are just as vibrant as digital captures now. 🎬🎥

In this movie however, because they kinda applied the effects like a filter all over the videography (alike batch editing photographies), most of the scenes looked really washed out and unnecessarily muted (cuz not all of the scenes fit this filter so they def need some tweaking and pre-editing) that tbh I'd argue would be against what they were going 12:12 reality color grading, as in actuality our rl world are very much colourful, so much so that we even invented color television to bring it on screen in the first place 😆📺🎞

Just because we feel sad/depress or may have other negative feelings doesn't make colors in eveyday objects go away and in fact we can't escape colours in reality no matter the reasons 🌈🤓 but of course in media we can edit the recordings so I'd agree their reasoning is probably BS 12:23 🤣

What I like the most about the wicked series you have 2 main storyline movies wizard of oz then return to oz is a direct sequel to the wizard of oz Judy garland movie we are back with Dorothy she won’t stop saying that she was in oz and what oz was so she is sent to see a doctor ends up in a mental hospital todo was trying to go with her to the hospital he ends up running off another disaster happens we end up back in oz somehow one of her pet chickens ends up with her in oz we get to see the house that killed nessa the wicked witch of the east and it goes from there there are 4 wicked books book 1
Takes place before during and after the judy garland movie then book 2 takes place before and during the return to oz movie and the books and book 3 is hella good because it’s book 3 and 4 when it goes off and becomes it’s own storyline and stops lining up with the movies and books
