Is the New Covenant the same as the everlasting covenant (Genesis 17:7)
Показать описание
Is the everlasting covenant given by God to Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 17:7, 19) continued as the New Covenant in Christ's blood 2000+ years later (Luke 22:20)? And if yes, wouldn't that mean Christians today join in the everlasting covenant promises, signs and blessings from Abraham through Isaac?
Indeed we see a continuity between the Covenant given to Abraham and the Covenant in Christ's blood. We find the same covenant language in Genesis 17, Eze. 31:31-34, 32:38-40 and other places. Yahweh becomes "a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee." Noah, Abraham and David each received an everlasting covenant but the Mosaic covenant (the Old Covenant) is never called this. It is cancelled and replaced by the "better covenant" (Hebrews 8:6). The essential substance of God's people and the way of salvation has always been the same from the Old and New Testaments: God saves by grace through faith in covenant dealings with His community of professing believers and their children (Genesis 17:7, Eze. 32:39 cf. Acts 2:38-39). We don't find a radical change of God's way of salvation when we get to Christ. Abraham was justified by faith (Gen. 15:6) and the O.T. saints trusted in the Promised Seed of Gen. 3:15. We today also trust in the Promised Seed, our Lord and King Christ Jesus.

I definitely need your support and your prayers. Saving money in the Philippines is tough and I yearn to marry my wonderful longterm Christian girlfriend and also to enter full time ministry some day soon. Teaching and preaching is definitely my passion and I love making these Youtube videos. I'm also a seminary student so throwing me a little tip would be a great help. You can also find awesome theological resources as rewards in Patreon that will edify you including Systematic Theologies, Christian books, a Greek Interlinear, my MDiv. papers and more!
