Flexible 3D Printing on Fabric - Best Flex Filament

*Settings to tweak if you print with flexible filament on a t-shirt:
-Increase extrusion multiplier slightly.
-Set retraction vertical lift to 1mm.
-Use minimal retraction to avoid jammed extruder.
-Layer height set to 0.2mm.
-Use only solid top/bottom layers (I set mine to at least 3).
-Increase first layer width to 110%.
-No heated bed is necessary. Set nozzle temperature to at least 230.
-Increase the "Global G-Code Offsets" to Z-axis = 0,5mm (this is to account for the thickness of the shirt).
-Add this code "G1 Z10 ; Z up 10mm" to the ending script instead of G28 home all axes (this is to avoid the nozzle resting against the shirt when print is complete).
-Lower speed, I used 20mm/s.

Parchment paper and wax paper are different things. You want to use parchment paper, shiny side down because it has a silicone coating. Was paper has wax, and with heat, that would melt onto your shirt.

They also sell silicone sheets you can buy at craft stores. They are a good, reusable option.

As someone who owns an embroidery/screen printing company, and has just recently gotten into 3D printing, i think this is a really cool idea! Granted, it probably won’t hold up as well as a true screen print, but this would cut alot of the cost, and remove the required lead time. Thank you for sharing this idea!

Nice! FWIW, I found that silica gel sheets (like those to hold a cell phone in place on a car dash) are *PERFECT* for keeping fabric from lifting/warping/shifting on the bed without it being difficult to remove. I haven't found a source of sheets large enough to cover an entire printer bed, unfortunately.

You could make multicolour prints. Print each colour separately on the printer, then assemble / align them on the shirt, then melt into the fabric.

Simon, for me the best way is to print a stencil, and use fabric acrilic paint via spray, my t-shirt had gone more than 5 times to the washing machine, and it's still the same way, the trick is to iron it when the paint dry, so it don't wash away
