In this Microsoft Office 2016 Tutorial, I show you the basics of how to create or add a subform to your Access Database. Keep in mind that this demo is meant for beginners, and I tried to keep the layout as simple as possible. I had a relationship created between the VendorID fields on the table. This Office 365 tutorial on Windows 10 shows you the basics of creating a form and a sub form based off of a few fields. It was created as an example for beginners or for those of you who are trying to pas the MOS certification test, as it is on the exam.

Hi Adam, after selecting the fields I want on the form, I don't get the same prompt as your tutorial. Instead I get the prompt that says "What layout would you like for your form?" and my options are "Columnar, Tabular, Datasheet, Justified". None of which I want and no mention of subform. I am using Access 2016 on Windows 10. Any suggestions?

Sir I watch your tutorials regularly. I have a question. In passing a data from or to perform calculation between parent and subform I use the following syntax
On the subform field: FieldName=
Forms!Table1!Field - Subform FieldName.
But I don't know what would be the syntax if I want to pass a value from one subform to another subform

Thanks Adams. That addresses the basics. I want to create a Order form where in the header I will have values from Customer Master and another table - the shipping master. In the detail section again I will fetch details form the item master for parts and enter quantity and values of exch items and will have some natural total value columns and Grand Total of the Order at the end of the details sheet. I have seen some videos on similar subjects but they are either without voice or too fast and difficult to follow. Can you help and create one. If it exists already, please share a link.

Please do also add some navigation tips from header to sub form, from one order to the other etc

This video is about how to use the form wizard, just barely enough to be dangerous. What happens beneath the surface...? Like what if you have to re-arrange the fields, or make changes to the subform? What if the master form already exists?

I have a single table. Therefore relationship not required. But I want to build two forms. The first one shows only personal details and second one details of the person included in the main form. Shall be grateful if any tutorial is presented on that. Regards.

I want to use the IDNo variable as the key that links both tables. I want to create a trigger in the parent form to open the subform so that I can enter the necessary data (except the IDNo variable)

Thanks Adam, I actually have one master form that I initially created to fill the basic table called 'staff'. and I want to create a sub-table called "dependents" using the IDNo variable

Hi Adam -
I am learning ACCESS for a research project related to the pandemic and your videos have made my life so much easier. While waiting for IRB review I have developed our DB. Multiple providers will be inputting data. I have one DB with multiple tables and 3 forms (to keep it easy on the eyes). I just need the studyID# to go from one table to the next so it doesn't need to be inputted each time (higher margin for error). I have tried lots of things but can't get it to work so that the studyID# is automatically popping up when they use the command button to go to the next form. I am sure it is way easier than I have made it. Can you help? Thank you so much! Best, JD

Hi Professor Morgan, thank you for your videos. they are extremely helpful. i have a table 1 with fields like: po_no, receiver_id, received_date, received_qty, table 1 is a query linked to a database; i need to add a new field say filed A for data input in Access form. So i created table 2 with all fields linked to table 1. is there a way that when i linked table 2 field po_id to table 1, the rest of the field from table 1 will auto populated in table 2. this way, the operator does not need to look up the rest of the field. thank you Zoey

Your videos have helped me a lot, thank you! I want to create some sort of training database, would this sub form work for that? I would want to also create a report from it. But not using two existing tables like you did, I would need to have a table for data entry to continue adding to this form. I would need to add new documents and new employees. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
