On August 10, 2024, the Cass Scenic Railroad's Climax locomotive made two runs carrying passengers in three cabooses. The route went from the Cass Depot along the Greenbrier River to the Pine Flats and returned. Aside from a "shakedown" run earlier this week, this was the first use of the Climax for passengers in 2024.

Note to Drone operators: State law requires you to register your intentions with the park superintendent to fly a drone in any state park. Cass has a simple form at the Cass store to fill out to comply with the law.

Looks great to see a third type of geared steam locomotive running. The time I made it to Cass the Heiser's new boiler was in the shop to be installed. The Climax was all in pieces.

Hey Jeff! Great video!!! It's great to see this old Climax engine, but this is not the Climax engine famously known as "The Durbin Rocket". "The Durbin Rocket" Climax engine was the old number 3 Moore-Keppel & Co. Climax engine. I wonder what happened to "The Durbin Rocket" Climax engine after Durbin & Greenbrier Valley - Cass Scenic Railroad merger???
