This is a big one & something I get asked about constantly. How do I hand sand my knives? I believe knowing how to put down a good hand sanded finish is the base of any good blade finish that you wish to achieve.

As I've stated in the video, coming off your machines is one of the most important parts to getting a good clean hand sand and will greatly cut back your time. Find some methods that suit you and work on perfecting those. Hopefully this video helps. Thanks for checking it out!

Wow. So appreciate you sharing your knowledge and work like this. I am struggling to shape my very first knife. This helped. I am still struggling because I am rather dense and clumsy with the tools.

I make instruments and got into knife making and I appreciated your attention to sanding detail. I find it’s very similar to sanding hardwood end grain…it starts with good machining, takes good sanding setup and tons of patience.

I always think I know enough and then I watch a video and learn something new. I love the idea of changing direction on hand sanding so you know you got the entire blade to that grit. No lube though. That's interesting.

Question since I love hand sanding as much as the next guy. Has anyone thought to take the cheap Chinese 1x6 diamond 400 or 600 grit stones and hand sand with those to speed up the process? Then hand sand to satin with the rhinowhet to 800 grit or so?

Was wondering if a light folding table like that would be able to cope with hand sanding, and that rocking motion answered my question. That would drive me nuts.

Great video brotha ! Thanks for doing that. Starting my first knife next week. Where did you get the tools you are using to wrap the sand paper around ?

Very nice mate! I’ve started taking mine to 1200 on the disc with very thin leather backing. Uses a fair bit of sandpaper but god damn it’s fast! Love your work!

but as I see, the blade remains rather thick at all - more like an axe than a blade... or did I see something wrong?

Looks really coarse for a 600 grit. Is that ceramic sandpaper?
